After his Family Crest Catering company was hit by a string of robberies, the firm’s owner, David Crest, got tired of waiting for the Hanover (Mass) cops to track down the rat bastard who had made off with at least $3,000 of his goods and equipment. If it kept up, he’d be put out of business.With the police clueless, and no help whatsoever, David pieced together the clues and came up with a disturbing conclusion. One of his own employees was robbing him. Determined to catch the rat bastard in the act, David told his crew that he was going on vacation. With that established, David entered the place after everyone was gone, then hunkered down in his business office to wait for the thief to strike. The first night passed without a nibble, but, on the second night, the thief went for the bait.
Around 11pm, David heard noises coming from his kitchen. He heard the freezer door open and shut, then noted noises coming from the equipment room. Grabbing his Mossberg 500, a 12 gauge shotgun, he went out to confront the thief and got a nasty shock. The thief was his head chef, John F. O’Connor.
David ordered the thief to grab some floor, but O’Connor decided to run instead. His departure was hastened by two warning shots that David fired at the floor. Giving chase, he tried to shoot out the tires on O’Connor’s getaway ride. He missed, but, armed with the thief’s identity, he called the cops.
The Hanover police noted the obvious signs of an intruder - broken locks on the doors in the kitchen, the mess in the equipment room - then turned their attention to David. After taking David’s statement and taking custody of his gun, the Hanover police arrested DAVID, for ‘assault with a deadly weapon’ and ‘discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a dwelling’. Oh, they might run that thieving bastard O’Connor through the justice system hoops, too, but don’t bet the farm on it.
If this is how justice works in Hanover, I don’t blame Lady Justice for wearing a blindfold. In this case, don’t be shocked if you see her holding her nose to ward off the stench of the criminal INJUSTICE steaming load.

Antics: Hiding behind the ‘rules’.
In theory, as principal of Chardon High School (Ohio), Doug Delong should serve as an example for the inmates of his government cess-school. He should be willing to show them that, sometimes, rules must be bent, even broken, due to unforeseen circumstances. This week, Doug had a chance to show his captive audience that he had the nads to do the right thing, no matter what the rules specified. Instead, Doug gave them a close look at craven cowardice.Ironically, two of Doug’s students, a pair of seniors named Will McDonnell and Tony Workman, the young men who shined a spotlight on Doug’s gutless wonder antics, are shining examples of courage. Will McDonnell, having fulfilled his graduation requirements early in the school year, joined the United States Marines and has already completed his boot camp. Tony Workman, a proud member of the Army National Guard, completed the U.S. Army’s 10-week long basic training, last Summer. Both young men should be honored for their decision to defend our nation and its liberty.
Proud of their service to this country, these young warriors made a simple request. They wanted to forego the cap and gown and receive their high school diploma decked out in their uniforms. At first, that seemed to be an acceptable arrangement, until Doug the Slug went furtive and girlie. If he allowed this exception to the no, cap, no gown, no diploma rule, Doug whined that other ‘organizations’ would demand equal time. What a load of bull crap! Instead, Doug agreed to let the young men strut their uniformed stuff by leading the Honor Guard before the graduation ceremony. But, when it came time to go up on the stage for their diploma, the young warriors must wear their cap and gown.
Unlike Doug the Slug, Marines don’t surrender and neither does he United States Army. The two young warriors have made their decision. They will wear the uniforms throughout the ceremony and stand proudly, at attention, when their names are called, without going up on the stage. It’s an honorable decision and we all salute them for it.
Doug the Slug is a whining, rules obsessed, weasel who fails to see any distinction between the armed forces of the United States and a 4-H Club. For that...for taking a dump on two patriotic young warriors...for being a gutless guttersnipe who hides behind ‘the rules’...for being unworthy to spit-shine the boots of these young warriors, Doug ‘The Slug’ Delong is the Politically Incorrect Gazette’s Girlieman of the Week.

Sheriff Joe Arpaio wins Law Enforcement Officer of the Year Award

Maricopa County's Sheriff Arpaio honored with national award Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio received a national award in Tennessee over the Memorial Day weekend.
Arpaio was honored with the Law Enforcement Officer of the Year Award from the Buford Pusser Foundation.Pusser became Sheriff of McNairy County after moving to Adamsville in the 1960s.
Pusser gained a reputation for cleaning up the illegal operations on the Tennessee-Mississippi state line that included gambling, prostitution, and moonshine whisky.
Movies and a television series were produced about the sheriff and weekly newspaper reports portrayed him as a threat to anyone breaking the law in McNairy County.
Pusser was killed in a car accident in 1974.
Arpaio said meeting with people who knew and worked with Sheriff Buford Pusser was a memorable and moving experience.Police, deputies, officials, and others from all over the United States and Canada attended the event in Adamsville.
"I appreciated the award, but what was really gratifying was the opportunity to meet personally with Sheriff Pusser's family & friends and hearing their stories about their beloved Sheriff," said Arpaio.
"Had he been alive as Sheriff today, he might have been called the toughest Sheriff in America."

In its final days, Hillary Clinton's 2008 presidential campaign has come to echo George Wallace's 1968 run.
Like Clinton, Wallace as a candidate stalked the Northeast exploiting white anger. Like her, he bypassed the nation's more educated and liberal parts to focus squarely on those who felt left behind, rallying animosity against elites.
But behind the mask of populism, it was race that fueled Wallace's campaign from the start. And it is race that has brought new life to Clinton's campaign in its final days.
Like Wallace, Clinton doesn't address racial prejudice squarely, but cloaks the appeal to our darker fears in seemingly neutral issues. He used opposition to school busing; she has played off Obama's alleged elitism and ties to the Rev. Jeremiah Wright.
To be fair, neither appeal is totally invalid.
Busing failed to integrate our schools and led, instead, to greater segregation as whites fled to the suburbs and/or to private schools.
Rev. Wright, meanwhile, is enough to scare the daylights out of anybody. To have a president who sat willingly in his pews, absorbing and seemingly condoning his hatred, is a worrisome prospect indeed.
But the basic fact remains that Clinton, like Wallace, is relying on race. Their tactics are similar, appealing to the same kind of voters for parallel reasons.
No, Clinton isn't a racist - but she's still using race to win elections. (So, by the way, did Bill Clinton in 1992, with his criticism of Sister Souljah and his much-publicized backing for capital punishment.)
Racism is as racism does. When a politician consciously exploits racial divisions, fears and animosity to win an election, he or she deserves condemnation.
But Hillary Clinton is neither a racist nor a populist; she's an opportunist. Discovering that the establishment consensus has left behind millions of disgruntled voters - the angry white men of yesteryear - she, like Wallace before her, is creating new fissures in the electorate in the hopes of upsetting a harmony that doesn't serve her ends.
Her advocates say that Clinton has found her voice. But this new voice is but an echo of a a discordant note in a discredited past.
In the coal mines of Kentucky and West Virginia and the former factory towns of Western Pennsylvania and Central Ohio, the anger into which this voice taps remains alive, hot and glowing. But most of America has moved beyond prejudice, beyond diversity, beyond even tolerance, into a post-racial era.
It was a proud feature of our politics in 2008 that we seemed to have crested this wave of progress - until Clinton, embittered by frustrated ambition, blew on the smoldering embers of racial fear to stage a comeback for the nomination.
It isn't her proudest moment.

Content of O'Malley's computer still a big question
Speculation is rampant as to exactly what kind of pictures former Cuyahoga County Recorder Pat O'Malley had on his personal computer. O'Malley entered a plea of guilty on obscenity charges after being charged by the FBI.
O'Malley will be sentenced in August - he is facing up to 6 months in jail. During O'Malley's sentencing prosecutors have stated they will go in to detail on the content of their find.

The charges and O'Malley's plea are raising many questions in the so-called inner circle of Cuyahoga County politics. Some are questioning if O'Malley really downloaded the pictures or was he set up.The charge said "O'Malley did knowingly use an interactive computer service for the carriage in interstate and foreign commerce of numerous obscene, lewd, lascivious and filthy pictures, writings and other matters of indecent character."
Adult obscenity statutes focus on the dissemination of obscene materials, either by mail or through computers, said Richard Lillie, a Cleveland defense lawyer and former Cuyahoga County Common Pleas judge and federal prosecutor with expertise in obscenity laws.
Lillie... said federal prosecutors are targeting those who profit from questionably obscene material, either by producing it, importing it, broadcasting it or mailing it. They are not looking for Regular Joes with dirty pictures on their computer, he said.
"Somebody with a small collection of [pornography] would obviously not be a target of a federal prosecution," Lillie said. "The mere receipt or viewing of obscenity is not going to be illegal." More...
If the pics were kiddie porn it is wondered if O'Malley struck a deal for reduced charges by rolling over on other Cuyahoga County Democrat officials. One scenario being floated is that O'Malley realized he was pretty much screwed and offered up Mason for the reduced charges.
The scuttlebutt, though not confirmed, is that the feds have been interviewing people in Mason's office the last few days. The allegations are that they are looking for employees being used to campaign on county time and questionable fund raising tactics. Whether O'Malley is guilty or not and whether the above rumors are true remains to be seen. Regardless, most elected officials are staying away from remarking on the O'Malley incident.
One person smiling is Cuyahoga County Commissioner and Cuy. Co. Democrat Chairman Jimmy Dimora. When O'Malley's computers were initially seized by the feds in 2004, Dimora told TV reporters it was time for O'Malley to leave...
"My suggestion's gonna be is, if he, and he'll know what's going on with his particular situation, is this the time to cut the strings and be done with it," Dimora told Channel 3 News.
"I'm going to ask him to make that decision about his political career, is it time to step down?"
While Mason may soon have his own issues to deal with - he is not prosecuting this case. O'Malley was charged in federal court and not county court - so they case is being tried by federal prosecutors.

While Waterloo N.Y. was officially declared the birthplace of Memorial Day by President Lyndon Johnson in May 1966, it's difficult to prove conclusively the origins of the day. It is more likely that it had many separate beginnings; each of those towns and every planned or spontaneous gathering of people to honor the war dead in the 1860's tapped into the general human need to honor our dead, each contributed honorably to the growing movement that culminated in Gen Logan giving his official proclamation in 1868. It is not important who was the very first, what is important is that Memorial Day was established. Memorial Day is not about division. It is about reconciliation; it is about coming together to honor those who gave their all.
She then conceived of an idea to wear red poppies on Memorial day in honor of those who died serving the nation during war. She was the first to wear one, and sold poppies to her friends and co-workers with the money going to benefit servicemen in need. Later a Madam Guerin from France was visiting the United States and learned of this new custom started by Ms. Michael and when she returned to France, made artificial red poppies to raise money for war orphaned children and widowed women. This tradition spread to other countries. In 1921, the Franco-American Children's League sold poppies nationally to benefit war orphans of France and Belgium. The League disbanded a year later and Madam Guerin approached the VFW for help. Shortly before Memorial Day in 1922 the VFW became the first veterans' organization to nationally sell poppies. Two years later their "Buddy" Poppy program was selling artificial poppies made by disabled veterans. In 1948 the US Post Office honored Ms Michael for her role in founding the National Poppy movement by issuing a red 3 cent postage stamp with her likeness on it.Traditional observance of Memorial day has diminished over the years. Many Americans nowadays have forgotten the meaning and traditions of Memorial Day. At many cemeteries, the graves of the fallen are increasingly ignored, neglected. The main changes we are fighting to win for Ohioans with the SB184 amendment are as follows:
- Establish a clear standard for what constitutes a "loaded firearm." The Ohio House wants to eliminate the "ready at hand" vagueness that has trapped many gun owners and hunters in Ohio. The FOP is opposing this because they claim it would allow "... anyone to carry a gun in a car (non-permit holders) if it is not loaded and no ammunition is in a magazine or speed loader." Since both the Ohio and US constitutions guarantee us this right, it is not the FOP's place to object to this right for all law abiding Ohioans.
- Provide protection from confiscation of firearms during disaster and other emergencies. This is what other states are calling "Katrina Legislation" and is designed to prevent the wholesale confiscation of lawfully owned firearms such as was seen in New Orleans after the Katrina disaster. The FOP is attempting to derail this important protection to your firearm and property rights.
- Allow lawful carry of firearms in establishments with a class D6 liquor permit. This type of permit allows sale of liquor on Sunday and includes most Krogers, Ameristops, and Giant Eagle type of businesses. Fixes are also being considered to allow owners of restaurants and bars to carry concealed as well as allow special duty police to carry in such establishments. The FOP has objected to this.
- Make changes to the notification of officers by CHL holders. The penalty to a CHL for failure to notify (such as after a traffic accident or other highly stressful situation) would be reduced if the status of the CHL holder was already known to the officer. No more making criminals out of honest Ohioans simply because they were subject to a traumatic event and failed to inform an officer of something the officer was already aware of. The FOP has objected to this as well.

Cuyahoga County BOE & New Voting Machines - AGAIN!
Cuyahoga residents - assume the position AGAIN! It is time for another "Voting Booth" boning...
The Cuyahoga County "Bored" of Elections is reviewing voting equipment to replace the illegal central count scanners, the county was forced to lease from ES&S for this past primary election.
And here we are AGAIN...

The winner will supply the county its third voting system to be used in the last three major elections. More than $22 million in county and federal tax dollars have been spent on machines since 2005.
The board might lease equipment this time because many newer voting machines presented on Friday won't be certified for use in Ohio before the election.
The companies -- Premier Election Solutions, Election Systems & Software and HartInterCivic -- provided a range of options to consider, including lease, purchase and lease-with-intent-to-buy plans. Costs ranged from $1.7 million to $15.7 million.
The central count scanners and equipment leased for the primary was done by illegally awarding ES&S the contract under orders from Ohio Stormtrooper of State - Fuhrer Brunnehilda.Why do I feel it was illegal?First - when using optical scanners, per HAVA, a scanner is to be at EACH precinct so it is assured the ballot was filled out properly by the voter. The intent of this is so each voter knows their ballot was properly filled out, will be counted and not rejected when it reaches downtown - the central scanner.Furthermore, in Brunnehilda recommended AGAINST central based scanning in her federally funded Everest Report.... Based on the EVEREST report, Brunner made a number of recommendations to Governor Ted Strickland and Ohio legislators, including elimination of DREs, a move to centralized ballot counting, institution of "no-fault" absentee voting, and development of new early and election-day voting centers. The other 87 counties in OH were allowed to use P.E.S. touch screen machines but were forced to also offer paper ballots for ES&S optical scan machines. Fuhrer Brunnehilda never decertified the use of P.E.S. as a supplier in Ohio and never decertified their touch screen equipment or the P.E.S. optical scan equipment.
Even in light of this, our county commissioners leased central-based scanners, which are not allowed by law, from ES&S as a "sole provider" - when they were not!
Immediately after the awarding of this contract I sent a letter to Cuyahoga County Prosecutor Bill Mason asking that he appoint a "special prosecutor" to investigate the legalities of awarding this contract.
I also requested that he conduct a criminal investigation as to why BOE Director Jane Platten began removing the old equipment 2 weeks prior to Brunnehilda issuing her directive. After several weeks & numerous calls to the prosecutors office - the day before the primary I received my answer... Ha Ha - Not a chance, sorry for your luck!

Scanners leased for that balloting -- for $1.5 million from ES&S -- replaced $21 million touch-screen voting machines, made by Premier, that were scrapped in December.
For fall, the board is shopping for "precinct-based" scanners that notify voters at the polls if their ballots contain errors. The central-count method was banned because it doesn't give that alert.
There is a slight chance the county still can use the central-count method. Three of the four board members -- excluding Rob Frost -- sent a letter to Secretary of State Jennifer Brunner, urging her to ask lawmakers to permit central-count voting in November. Permission would give the board more choices, and members could retain equipment used in March at a discount.
Did RPCC Chairman & BOE member Rob Frost grow a set of 'nads & BOE Chairman Jeff Hastings lose his?Though Frost has not been portrayed in the best of light on here recently, and rightfully so, I believe in giving credit where credit is due... - If ES&S is the only approved sole provider of this equipment - why are we entertaining bids from other companies?
- Why are you now allowing the same companies that were not allowed to bid for the lease of optical equipment in the primary election bid in this lease or purchase?
- Can you please specify the date(s) any of these companies had their optical scanning equipment certified, decertified and/or recertified?
- If precinct based scanners were not to be used, by law, in the primary or the general election - why are you requesting to use them again?
- Will the residents of Cuyahoga County at least get kissed in this latest screwing?

An Inconvenient Truth

Recently, there have been local incidents in which military personnel have been verbally assaulted while commuting on the Metro. Uniformed members have been approached by individuals expressing themselves as anti-government, shouting anti-war sentiments, and using racial slurs against minorities.
In one instance, a member was followed onto the platform by an individual who continued to berate her as she exited the metro station. Thus far, these incidents have occurred in the vicinity of the Reagan National Airport and Eisenhower Ave metro stations on the yellow line, however, military members should be vigilant and aware of their surroundings at all times while in mass transit.
Should you be approached by any individuals expressing anti-government/anti-war sentiments, or any other types of direct verbal assault, immediately notify your local police jurisdiction. If riding metro, exit the train at the next stop, distance yourself from the individual, and notify the Metro Transit Police Department.
Here are a few friendly reminders of personal protective measures that can help you to stay safe:
- If possible, do not commute in uniform (military members) -Do not display DoD building passes, "hot cards", or personal identification in open view outside of the workplace -Do not discuss specifics about your occupation to outside solicitors.

John McCain is America's favorite kind of candidate. With his record of extraordinary patriotism and his distinctive Senate tenure, McCain is a nominee whom voters from both parties -- and independents, too -- could easily support.
But he has been dealt a terrible hand: a tanking economy, an unpopular war, a Republican incumbent whose approval ratings are at their all-time low and a gloomy national mood, with 82 percent of Americans saying in a Washington Post-ABC News poll last week that the country is on the wrong track. Political scientists add all that up and predict that the Democrats are destined to win the White House. But I don't do political science; I do politics, and I'm convinced that McCain can still win -- if he's willing to follow the road map below.
McCain needs to not run as a traditional Republican, which is easy, since he's not one. After all, how did an anti-torture, anti-tobacco, pro-campaign finance reform, anti-pork, pro-alternative-energy Republican ever emerge from the primaries alive? Simple: The GOP electorate, along with the rest of the country, has moved somewhat to the left. (In Florida, for example, exit polls showed that only 27 percent of Republican primary voters described themselves as "very conservative," while 28 percent said they were "moderate" and 2 percent said they were "very liberal.")
Meanwhile, McCain's likely rival, Barack Obama, has raised such doubts among voters that their concerns momentarily energized even Hillary Rodham Clinton's sagging campaign. With the help of the incendiary comments of his former pastor, the Rev. Jeremiah A. Wright Jr., Obama's negatives have been rising even as he nears the finish line.
Still, voters are tending heavily toward the Democratic Party. Normally, party preferences are about even, but recent national polls give Democrats a decided edge. In last week's Post-ABC poll, 53 percent of Americans identified themselves as Democrats or leaned toward the party, compared with 39 percent who were Republicans or tilted to the GOP.
To sum it up: A candidate who cannot get elected is being nominated by a party that cannot be defeated, while a candidate who is eminently electable is running as the nominee of a party doomed to defeat.
In this environment, McCain can win by running to the center.
His base will be there for him; indeed, it will turn out in massive numbers. Wright has become the honorary chairman of McCain's get-out-the-vote efforts. It would be nice to think that race isn't a factor in American politics anymore, but it is. The growing fear of Obama, who remains something of an unknown, will drag every last white Republican male off the golf course to vote for McCain, and he will need no further laying-on of hands from either evangelical Christians or fiscal conservatives.
So McCain doesn't have to spend a lot of time wooing his base. What he does need to do is reduce the size of the synapse over which independents and fearful Democrats need to pass in order to back his candidacy. If the synapse is wide, they will stay with Obama. But if they perceive McCain as an acceptable alternative, there is every chance that they will cross over to back him in November.
If the GOP nominee were Mitt Romney or Mike Huckabee, independents and Democrats might not vote Republican even if they became convinced that Obama is some kind of sleeper agent sent to charm and conquer our democracy. Even Rudy Giuliani, with his penchant for confrontation, might have elicited sufficient doubts among Democrats to hold them in line for Obama. But McCain doesn't threaten anyone. Everyone can appreciate the ordeal that tested his courage in Vietnam, and independents and Democrats can celebrate much of his legislative record. Voting for McCain is an easy sell.
Except, of course, for Iraq. This is his biggest problem -- the one issue that impales the Arizona senator and hampers his ability to induce liberals to cross the line.
Earlier in the race, Iraq might have been a deal-breaker. But a kinder, gentler war has emerged. U.S. combat deaths are way down, and the de facto U.S. alliance with Sunni tribal leaders in Anbar province against al-Qaeda in Iraq seems to have dramatically improved the security situation. Still, most Americans don't like the war, and McCain must deal with their opposition if he wants to win.
The solution is to draw Obama out -- to ask the untested senator what he would do if al-Qaeda in Iraq took over the country . . . or if Iran did . . . or if the Iraqis who backed the U.S. mission were being slaughtered by the thousands . . . or if Islamist terrorists seized control of the country's oil wealth.
Obama, not wanting to appear weak, would no doubt rise to the bait and agree that he might need to send troops back in under certain conditions. He would assure us that sufficient forces would be available at nearby bases to get the job done. To avoid coming across as indecisive and timid, he would put on a sufficiently hawkish face to reassure the voters. And in doing so, he would blur the war issue vis-a-vis McCain. It will make little difference to most Americans whether our troops are in Iraq (as McCain wants) or in Kuwait (as Obama can be pushed to suggest), so long as U.S. casualties are dropping. And with the economy in tough shape, Iraq will fade as the election's be-all and end-all issue.
Which brings us to George W. Bush, the least popular president of modern times. Unlikely as it sounds, the soon-to-be former president needs to get out of the White House, reenter the political arena (much as it will pain him) and go around the country telling us two things: First, we are winning in Iraq; second, the economy is not as bad as most people think. With the Dow at around 12,800 and unemployment at 5 percent, Bush can make a good case that things aren't really headed for the rocks. And he'll have to. Republicans cannot win with an incumbent president with rock-bottom ratings.
Bush can help McCain, but that doesn't mean that McCain should support Bush. As Bush makes the case for himself, McCain must put distance between them. A lot of distance. Once, McCain ran against Bush. But since then, he has basked in the glow of Bush's warm welcome back to the mainstream of the party. Now McCain needs to free himself of Bush's spell, go out again into the cold and show the country the difference between his agenda and Bush's.
Meanwhile, McCain should highlight his credentials as a reformer and a maverick to attract Democrats and independents who worry about Obama. Forget about the base. It will be there. Obama's liberalism, his pro-tax agenda and his proposed weakening of the USA Patriot Act -- as well as fears that he would appoint to office people such as Rev. Wright and William Ayers, a former member of the Weather Underground -- will all assure the full mobilization of the right. Immigration reform and McCain's other acts of apostasy will be forgiven for the sake of beating Obama. So McCain needs to go after the swing voters:
Lash out at the corporate greed that landed us in the subprime mortgage crisis. Attack the golden-parachute pensions, the ill-gotten commissions and the maddening lending fees.
Go after credit card companies' interest rates, late fees and consumer gouging.
Demand action on global warming (as McCain began doing last week, including hawking "eco-friendly" campaign T-shirts).
Call for a ban on all congressional earmarks, with their inevitable waste and pork, and insist that Congress appoint a permanent ethics special prosecutor to police itself.
Attack big tobacco, and blast the movie industry for helping sell its poison.
Pledge to make hedge-fund managers pay full earned-income taxes on their incomes, rather than the undeserved capital-gains treatment they currently get.
But not all of McCain's moves should be aimed at pleasing the left. He should also:
Attack Obama for favoring federally subsidized health insurance for illegal immigrants.
Criticize Obama for slavish devotion to the teachers' unions and willingness to compromise educational standards.
Go after the Democrats for their proposals to lower sentences for crack cocaine to make them equal to those for powder cocaine. (Instead, McCain should urge raising penalties for regular cocaine.)
McCain need not depart from long-held principles to wage any of these battles. He has always embraced these causes as a senator, and he needs to do so ever more forcefully as a candidate for president. The danger for McCain is that he will forget that he has already won the Republican nomination and retreat to safe GOP positions, which will alienate precisely the Democrats and independents whom he is uniquely positioned to attract.
Meanwhile, the right wing will carry the attack against Obama. McCain is not a mudslinging politician by nature, but he doesn't need to be. The collected quotes of Rev. Wright will be a bestseller this summer. Obama once had to prove to us that he was not a Muslim; now he must convince us that he never really went to church much. Just as Sen. John F. Kerry was buffeted by veterans who had less than heroic memories of their service with him in Vietnam, so Obama will have to weather the recollections of his fellow parishioners. Count on several to surface and claim that they sat next to him during some particularly incendiary sermon.
The American public will not ultimately doubt Obama's patriotism; that is a bridge too far. But we will come to think less of his credibility and strength as he fumbles his way through awkward denials. Obama's ex-pastor may have faded in the primary fight with Clinton, but Wright will loom larger in the general election. McCain is in an excellent position to exploit the openings that Obama will offer -- if, and only if, he moves to the center.

Some of the underlying factors - the increasing demand for energy from growing economic powerhouses like India and China - are beyond little Stevie’s control. He might be a legend in his own mind, but nobody in China or India gives a rat’s butt what he says or does.Other underlying factors fall squarely on the stooped shoulders of Stevie and his Clown Posse cohorts. I refer, as if you can’t guess, to the many roadblocks that Stevie and his cohorts erected to prevent America from taking simple, no brainer, steps to resolve its unmet energy needs. These steps would include freeing known petroleum reserves in Colorado, the Dakotas, Alaska, and offshore for production. These steps would also include opening the path for more nuclear fueled power plants, a move that would reduce our need for oil, considerably.
In addition to keeping our proven oil reserves off line, Stevie and his big spending homeboys have made a bad situation much, much, worse by putting the dollar into freefall. Since oil is priced in dollars, prices are driven up every time the dollar hits a new low.
This week, ignoring those clucking, ‘public policy’ chickens that are coming home to roost at every gas pump in this great nation, Stevie went gutless and girlie and decided to take his whining to the next level. How? Stevie perpetrated some legicrap that allows the United States Justice Department to - TA DA - SUE OPEC for limiting oil supplies. If anyone needs to be sued for limiting supply it’s Stevie and the other 323 gutless wonders who voted for this stinker.
For failing to man up and admit his on-going complicity in keeping America dependent on foreign oil...for lacking the stones to shore up the U.S. dollar by cutting spending and imposing sound fiscal policy...for looking for a scapegoat instead of viable solutions...for exacerbating the problem through his craven cowardice and steadfast refusal to admit his role in this energy price debacle, Congressman Steve Kagen is the Politically Incorrect Gazette’s Girlieman of the Week.

GOP SENATE MASSACRE OF '08 by Dick Morris

While Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) hangs in there, locked in a tough race with Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.), the Republican undercard is facing obliteration in the 2008 general elections for the Senate. Polling suggests that a massacre may be in the offing — and one that’s possibly even greater than the worst of previous GOP years: 1958, 1964, 1974, 1986 and 2006.
Scott Rasmussen, whose site, www.rasmussenreports.com , follows these races closely, is producing truly hair-raising polling data.
Of the open Republican Senate seats in contention, Democratic victory seems very likely in Virginia (Democratic former Gov. Mark Warner now has 55 percent, while fellow former Republican Gov. Jim Gilmore stands at 37) and New Mexico (where Democratic Rep. Tom Udall takes 53 percent to GOP Rep. Steve Pearce’s 37 and 57 percent to Republican Rep. Heather Wilson’s 36). In Colorado, Democratic Rep. Mark Udall has a narrow lead over Republican Bob Schaffer (45-42). Nebraska would seem safely Republican, but a humongous black turnout in Mississippi could elect former Democratic Gov. Ronnie Musgrove, just as it led to a Democratic congressional victory in a bi-election this month. Score them: two Democrat, one leaning Democrat, one leaning Republican, and one Republican. A net loss of two or three seats.
And then there are the endangered incumbents. Three GOP senators are actually behind their Democratic challengers. Alaska’s Ted Stevens is behind Mark Begich by 47-45. Elizabeth Dole trails Kay Hagan in North Carolina by 48-47. And Jeanne Shaheen is well ahead of John Sununu in New Hampshire, 51-43. Stevens’s legal problems and the likely huge black turnout in North Carolina make all three states lean Democratic at this point.
Even when GOP incumbents lead, they are perilously under 50 percent. In Oregon, as of this writing, Gordon Smith leads Jeff Merkley by only 45-42 and Steve Novick by 47-41. And in Texas, John Cornyn leads Rick Noriega by only 47-43. In addition, Norm Coleman in Minnesota is hanging on by his teeth against Al Franken, 50-43; Susan Collins is only narrowly ahead of Rep. Tom Allen in Maine, 52-42; and in Kansas, Pat Roberts holds only a 52-40 lead over Jim Slattery. Mitch McConnell in Kentucky may also be in trouble.
So, among incumbents, score it three leaning Democratic, two tossups, and three leaning Republican.
Overall, that’s a likely Democratic pickup of five seats, with an eight-seat gain possible, and, in a partisan wipeout, a 12-seat shift.

In all likelihood, the filibuster will still remain a theoretical Republican option, but, in practical terms, may be beyond reach, especially if Obama wins the White House.
Driving the GOP’s imperiled Senate situation, or course, is a massive shift in party identification. While the two parties are normally about tied in party ID, the Democrats now enjoy a 44-30 advantage in the latest Fox News poll of April 29. A combination of the Iraq war, gas prices, the credit crisis and a looming recession are dragging down the Republican Party, big time.
So is a president with a 28 percent approval rating. Bush needs to go out and tell America that things are bad, but not that bad. There are solid signs that the economy may not be tanking after all. Unemployment, while rising, is still at historic lows. The credit crisis has not led to a wholesale collapse of the financial industry and the instability appears to be easing. And, in Iraq, we are approaching a more stable situation with lower combat deaths. Bush, who has largely been hunkered down in the White House, needs to hit the trail and move his ratings up into the mid- or high 30s, not an insurmountable challenge.
Will the endangered Republicans recover? Most have prevailed, in the past, by lifting their personal ratings out of possible danger early in the race. But when long-term incumbents find themselves mired in the high 40s or low 50s in vote share, it indicates a massive voter desire for change that is not likely to abate.
In the House, the incredible three Democratic bi-election victories, combined with the retirements of so many Republican incumbents, indicates that the GOP may be facing disaster there as well.
This is not a good year to be a Republican.

Warns of consequences affecting Ohio’s economy, employees and customers
Washington, DC –In a letter to Ohio Governor Ted Strickland, the Community Financial Services Association of America (CFSA) urged a veto of the recently passed payday lending bill that effectively bans the payday advance industry in Ohio.
D. Lynn DeVault, CFSA president, writes, “Vetoing this legislation would ensure that working families continue to have access to a state-regulated small, short-term credit option and that the six thousand Ohioans employed by the payday lending industry are not at risk of getting turned out into the state’s unemployment lines.”
DeVault writes that “politics got in the way of good public policy” and details the negative consequences of eliminating the payday advance industry in Ohio, including:
Economic Impact
- The industry employs 6,000 Ohioans who are paid nearly $173 million annually in salaries and benefits.
- Lenders occupy a total of 1,600 locations, comprising 4.8 million square feet of office space in Ohio, for which they pay $77 million annually in rent revenue to landlords across the state.
- In addition to the $250 million the industry contributes directly to the state’s economy for jobs and real estate, they pay a whole host of local vendors for services ranging from advertising and office supplies to security systems and banking services.
Impact on Customers
- Due to a lack of credible alternatives, customers will be forced into more expensive, less desirable or even unregulated credit alternatives that are completely devoid of consumer protections.
- In Ohio, there have been fewer than 75 complaints in five years, out of hundreds of thousands of transactions. This would not be the case if the accusations of our critics were true.
- Even Ohioans who may not use payday advance loans have strong feelings about the issue. A recent poll by Zogby International found 84% of likely voters in Ohio believe citizens should be free to make their decision about what kind of credit they can use.
“We are asking for a regulatory framework that allows reputable lenders to stay in the market and offer a state-regulated service to consumers who have exhibited a compelling demand for this credit product,” writes DeVault.
She adds, “The day following Senate passage of HB 545, some payday lenders stopped making loans and are doing their best to collect the loans that are outstanding. Others began laying-off employees and closing stores. The potential for the human toll of HB 545 is significant and unsettling. Politics have real life consequences.”

Bush's spokeswoman said Tuesday that the president apologized during a videoconference Monday with Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki, who told the president that the shooting of Islam's holy book had disappointed and angered both the Iraqi people and their leaders.
The U.S. military said Sunday that it had disciplined the sniper and removed him from Iraq after he was found to have used Islam's holy book for target practice May 9 in a predominantly Sunni area west of Baghdad. The book was found two days later by Iraqis on a firing range in Radwaniyah with 14 bullet holes in it and graffiti written on its pages, tribal leaders said.
Similar perceived insults against Islam in Europe and elsewhere have sparked violent protests, and American officials appeared eager to contain the outrage. More...

David Williams, vice president of policy for the Citizens Against Government Waste watchdog group in Washington, D.C., said such trips often prove to be irresponsible. That's especially so, he said, for government bodies that are facing tough financial times.
"When a household is in dire financial straits, they don't take a vacation to Paris," he said. Williams also questioned whether the trip's benefits will outweigh the costs.
"It would be shocking to see them justify this on a cost-benefit analysis," he said. "Is the mayor willing to say that if it doesn't pay dividends, he'll pay the money back?"

OBAMA: WRONG ON IRAN by Dick Morris

President Bush is absolutely right to criticize sharply direct negotiations with Iranian President Ahmadinejad. Barack Obama’s embrace of the idea of direct negotiations is both naïve and dangerous and should be a big issue in the campaign.
The reason not to negotiate with Ahmadinejad is not simply to stand on ceremony or some kind of policy of non-recognition. It is based on the fundamental need to topple his regime by increasing the sense the Iranian people have — that he has isolated Iran from the rest of the world, to its severe and ongoing detriment.
The Iranian regime is almost entirely dependent on oil and gas revenues to pay for the vast program of social subsidies with which the government buys domestic support. Gasoline costs 35 cents a gallon in Teheran. Bread and all other staples are subsidized from public funds. But 85 percent of all government revenues come from oil and gas exports. There lies the regime’s vulnerability.
Iran is sitting atop the second largest oil reserves in the world. Only Saudi Arabia has more. But it can’t get at them. It lacks the foreign investment and technology necessary to increase, or even to sustain, its petroleum output. Under the Shah, Iran pumped upwards of six million barrels of oil a day. Now, Iran generates fewer than four million daily barrels. With domestic consumption of energy increasing at 10 percent a year — due in part to the massive subsidies which hold the price down — Iran is expected to see its oil exports cut in half by 2011 and entirely eliminated by 2014. If Iran cannot export oil, it cannot pay for social peace and the regime could be in dire trouble.
Without subsidies, the Iranian people, half of whom are under 30 and only 40 percent of whom are ethnically Farsi, will become restive and resentful. Already, many complain that Ahmadinejad’s policies have led to global isolation of Iran and stymied economic growth and social upward mobility. While opinion surveys in Iran indicate that the people support the nuclear aspirations of the regime, they are not willing to pay a price of international isolation.
If a President Obama were to meet with President Ahmadinejad, it would send a signal to the Iranian people that they are not isolated but that the rest of the world has come to respect them and to have to deal with them. The leading argument for toppling the current regime will have been fatally undermined.
But if the West sustains a policy of economic sanctions, curbs on foreign investment, and diplomatic isolation, the Iranian regime’s days are numbered.
Official United Nations sanctions are having some effect on Iran but the real power lies in cutting off investment by foreign companies, particularly in the banking and energy sectors. American companies are already prohibited from doing business there, although General Electric may be seeking ways around this prohibition through foreign subsidiaries.
Frank Gaffney, formerly of Reagan’s Pentagon, has pioneered the use of private economic disinvestment in companies that do business with Iran, Syria, North Korea, or Sudan. On his Web site, he has identified almost 500 companies that do business with these terror sponsoring nations. They include such international powerhouses as Sieman’s, Shell, Repsol, BNP Paribus, and Hyundai. He has crafted a terror free mutual fund which can earn good returns while avoiding investment in any of these companies.
Missouri Treasurer Sarah Steelman — now running for governor — pioneered disinvesting pension funds in these companies. Now California, Florida, and Louisiana have followed suit.
We need to let these policies work and global isolation of Iran is the way to do it. Negotiating with Ahmadinejad would simply boost his domestic stature and enhance his political stability, the exact opposite of what we should — and must — be doing.

Nada Nadim Prouty is a Lebanese national who has been employed by both the FBI and the CIA. There is no doubt, meanwhile, that she is an illegal immigrant: she has also admitted to paying an American citizen to entering into a sham marriage with her so that she could obtain U.S. citizenship. She is currently married to a longtime State Department official who has held important positions in the Egyptian and Pakistani embassies. Jessica "On My Back" Utovich is crying the democrat blues about her former job as the Travel Chick for disgraced former ass-grabbing AG Marc Dann.
After turning in her resignation, Utovich claims Marc Dann urged her not to quit and stated she could rescind her resignation. Dann's "office squeeze of convenience," tried and was denied.
Then at a press conference Utovich finally realized after being Dann's "screw toy" - she was getting "screwed over."

Dann followed with another news conference that morning and dropped a bombshell, admitting to the extramarital affair.The girl sleeping with a married man felt betrayed? Huh - nothing like screaming victimhood for a little sympathy.
He also responded to a question by saying he did not know why Utovich had quit and added that she was not forced out.
It was then, Utovich said, that she felt betrayed and learned she indeed was out of a job.
With the blood of victimhood coursing through her veins, Utovich expressed her outrage & disappoint to Paula Paoletti, the acting chief of staff, and is pondering filing a lawsuit...
"Finding out that I no longer had a job during today's press conferences was beyond disappointing since I have strived to support the administration," Utovich wrote in an e-mail to the top brass at the attorney general's office on May 2.Loyal, hard working & actions in her personal life?
She called the decision "unacceptable" and demanded an explanation for why she was not allowed to rescind the resignation and why she was not told before the news conferences that she was out of a job.
"I am appalled by the treatment shown to me, as over the past five months, I have been nothing but loyal and a hard worker," Utovich wrote. "I'm not proud of my actions in my personal life but do not deserve to be retaliated for them by the office."
Sweetie - your loyalty contributed to a sad impersonation of "Animal House," your hard work was covering for Dann & his dip shits, and boning the boss in a state paid apartment is not considered actions of your personal life.
Thoughts like this are reinforced when you have hack reporters like leather faced Connie Schultz of the PD hopping on her Femi-Nazi horse. While I believe Dann is an ass for cheating on his wife and should have known better than to sleep with an unstable employee - but he cannot be faulted for Utovich's mental instability.
The Femi-Nazi Schultz automatically assumes and calls the relationship "a mistake of exploitation for romance." Of course she would never think of it as - a young unstable girl infatuated with & turned on from the power of her new boss. The attention of such a powerful man - is very inviting to some women.
Leather face notes some of the email exchanges between Utovich and Dann. My opinion is that Dann realized he could knock an easy one off with this girl - so he did. Like I stated earlier - she was nothing more than a "squeeze of convenience."
Here comes the fatal attraction, that as a married man, he did not expect....
"Please do not EVER tell me to stop acting emotional," Utovich wrote to Dann in September 2007. "I try to do my job to the best that I can and you [expletive] on it. I try my hardest to make sure you are taken care of, do what you need to and prioritize only to have you complain and change everything without telling anybody. Your emotional crap is what makes everyone else miserable."So did Marc Dann force her to be a willing partner - I would say NO! Did he take advantage of a situation? He is an attorney, a politician and a democrat - a perfect DNA match for a sleazy, opportunistic rat - you tell me.
In another e-mail, she asked him, "Can you go to the bathroom or something and call me?" Two days later, she wrote, "My face hurts and burns from crying and I can't keep fighting."
When Utovich turned in her so-called exit paper work she included a remark she did not want made public, which of course they did...
"You work at the Attorney General's Office until its no longer convenient for them to let you work there. I had rescinded my resignation."
Both walked away learning a good lesson...
Utovich - the only reason employers have employees is because they are needed. When your employment is no longer "convenient" for them - neither are you. This is not just at the AG office, this is life.
Dann - never let a female employee sign her checks using your pen!

( INDEPENDENCE ) Continuing a theme that is becoming all too familiar, Congressman Dennis J. Kucinich (D-10) found himself as one of only eight members of the House of Representatives who voted Thursday, May 15th against H.R. 5872, a resolution honoring Boy Scouts of America with a commemorative coin.
Former State Representative and U.S. House Candidate Jim Trakas commented on the resolution stating, “I am on the Boy Scouts side. The Boy Scouts of America has long been an institution for boys to learn about nature, friendship, leadership and volunteerism. These are traits I am proud to see in our young men.”
Trakas was confused when learning of Kucinich’s vote, “I have a hard time understanding how anyone could vote against honoring the Boy Scouts of America. However, it makes sense when you understand that Congressman Kucinich voted against a resolution honoring the first responders and victims of The September 11th Terrorist Attacks as well as voting against implementing a nationwide Amber Alert system.”
Trakas continued, “Sadly, Congressman Kucinich has been spending too much time with his rich Hollywood friends to realize that those of us in Greater Cleveland admire the Boy Scouts and appreciate the values that scouting instills. They may not be weird Hollywood values, but they are Cleveland values!” commented Trakas, whose big brother was a Cub Scout.
Trakas is sending a letter to Scout Leaders throughout Greater Cleveland asking them to seek an explanation for this vote. “What part of The Scout’s Law of ‘A Scout is trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly, courteous, kind, obedient, cheerful, thrifty, brave, clean, and reverent’ does Congressman Kucinich disagree with? Trakas noted that he frequently attended Eagle Scout recognition ceremonies as a Member of The Ohio House of Representatives.
“This is yet another example of Congressman Kucinich voting Hollywood values over Cleveland values,” Trakas concluded.

Steaming Load #1: Arizona Governor tries to put Sheriff Joe Arpaio out of the border jumping crackdown business.
In March 2007, Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio’s department signed an agreement with the state of Arizona’s Department of Public Safety (DPS). Under this agreement, Sheriff Joe would provide 15 officers to the state gang taskforce’s Illegal Immigration Prevention and Apprehension Co-OP Team (IIMPACT). In return for this manpower, Sheriff Joe’s department would be reimbursed 85% of the deputies’ salaries, including overtime, and associated costs. This win-win situation hit its high water mark in February when DPS Chief Pennie Gillette-Stroud sent a message to the Sheriff’s Office commander:
In the letter, Gillette commended the sheriff's lieutenant, two sergeants and 12 deputies assigned to IIMPACT, saying their performance was "impressive" and that she looked forward to their continued partnership.
About that time, Arpaio said he received notice from the DPS that the intergovernmental agreement, which was set to expire in mid-May, would be renewed.
All signs were go as of last Wednesday, when the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors voted to accept IIMPACT money to be given to the Sheriff's Office as part of the continued contract. (Arizona Republic)
It was smooth sailing for this arrangement, until May 8, when an executive order perpetrated by a border jumper loving bitch, Governor Napolitano, pulled the plug on Sheriff Joe’s funding and redirected the state’s law enforcement resources elsewhere:
A letter dated May 8 from DPS Director Roger Vanderpool told Arpaio about the new fugitive task force and invited the Sheriff's Office to take part in the operation. In the last paragraph, Vanderpool said that "limited resources" precluded the DPS from continuing its agreement with the Sheriff's Office and that "we intend to use these monies to fund needed implementation of the executive order."
The executive order directs the DPS to immediately deploy a squad to address the backlog of nearly 60,000 open felony warrants statewide, with priority on gang-related felonies and fugitives who are undocumented immigrants. (Arizona Republic)
The new ‘task force’ is bull crap that is supposed to delude Arizona’s legal denizens into thinking that the border jumper crackdown is still up and running. The truth is that, with the stroke of this Colonista bitch’s pen, she gave every border jumping scumbag in the state a free pass to plunder the taxpayer and continue their criminal rampage. A Malaysian woman woke up to a real-life nightmare, discovering that the naked man who had slipped into her bed in the middle of the night was a thief, not her husband, a newspaper said on Tuesday.
The 36-year-old housewife was asleep when the thief, noticing that her husband was fast asleep on the couch, quietly stripped off and lay down beside her, the Star newspaper said, quoting a police report filed in the eastern state of Terengganu.
The dozing woman's suspicions were raised when she spoke to him and his voice sounded strange, the paper said.
"She then went to another room and found her husband fast asleep on the couch. That's when she screamed, causing the thief to flee by leaping out the window together with the stolen items," it added.

Our confidence in him was justified, this week, when he let it all hang out while addressing the Israeli parliament:"Some seem to believe we should negotiate with terrorists and radicals, as if some ingenious argument will persuade them they have been wrong all along," the President said to the country's legislative body, "We have heard this foolish delusion before. As Nazi tanks crossed into Poland in 1939, an American senator declared: 'Lord, if only I could have talked to Hitler, all of this might have been avoided.' We have an obligation to call this what it is -- the false comfort of appeasement, which has been repeatedly discredited by history." (ABC)
He nailed this one and that’s a fact that wasn’t lost on his Israeli audience. There are, as expected, some who took the president’s prose very hard, a fact that, finally, brings us to our Girlieman of the Week, Barack O’Dumbo.
"It is sad that President Bush would use a speech to the Knesset on the 6Oth anniversary of Israel's independence to launch a false political attack. It is time to turn the page on eight years of policies that have strengthened Iran and failed to secure America or our ally Israel. Instead of tough talk and no action, we need to do what Kennedy, Nixon and Reagan did and use all elements of American power -- including tough, principled, and direct diplomacy - to pressure countries like Iran and Syria. George Bush knows that I have never supported engagement with terrorists, and the President's extraordinary politicization of foreign policy and the politics of fear do nothing to secure the American people or our stalwart ally Israel."
Did president Bush come close to naming O’Dumbo? Nope. Did he allude, in any way, shape or form, to O’Dumbo? Nope. Was there the slightest implication that he was talking about O’Dumbo? Nope? So why is O’Dumbo acting so defensive? Why did O’Dumbo, automatically, assume that president Bush had just pinned an ‘appeaser’ label on him? Why is O’Dumbo trying to deafen us with his incessant caterwauling?
I’m smelling a classic case of ‘if the truth hurts, WHINE ABOUT IT’. Despite his convenient memory, he’s still the man who stated, on the record, in a televised debate, that he would meet, with no prior conditions, with America’s sworn enemies. O’Dumbo’s response in the debate means he would, unquestioningly give legitimacy to America hating scumbags like Mahmoud al-Gilligan, Kim Jong-Il, Castro the Sequel, Hugo "Skipper" Chavez and, presumably, Osama himself. That sounds like appeasement to us, how about you?

We are all aware that next January, the political leadership of the United States will change significantly when a new president is sworn into our nation's highest elected office. It is important that the candidates who seek to lead our country after President Bush define their objectives and what they plan to achieve not with vague language but with clarity.
What I want to do is take a little time to describe what I hope to have achieved at the end of my first term as president. I cannot guarantee I will have achieved these things, but I am presumptuous enough to think I would be a good president.
By January 2013, at the end of my first term as president, America has welcomed home most of the servicemen and women who have sacrificed terribly so that America might be secure in her freedom. The Iraq War has been won and Iraq is a functioning democracy. The threat from a resurgent Taliban in Afghanistan has been greatly reduced but not eliminated and there has not been a major terrorist attack in the United States since September 11, 2001.
The United States has experienced several years of robust economic growth and Americans again have confidence in their economic future. Congress has lowered taxes and passed fundamental tax reform offering a choice in how taxes are filed. Americans, who through no fault of their own, lost jobs in the global economy they once believed were theirs for life, are assisted by reformed unemployment insurance and worker retraining programs.
Public education in the United States is much improved and test scores and graduation rates are rising everywhere in the country. Health care has become more accessible to more Americans than at any other time in history.
The United States is well on the way to independence from foreign sources of oil; progress that has not only begun to alleviate the environmental threat posed from climate change, but has greatly improved our security as well.
Scores of judges have been confirmed to the federal district and appellate courts, including the U.S. Supreme Court, who understand that they were not sent there to write our laws but to enforce them.
Voluntary national service has grown in popularity in part because of the educational benefits used as incentives, as well as frequent appeals from the bully pulpit of the White House, but mostly because the young Americans understand that true happiness is much greater than the pursuit of pleasure, and can only be found by serving causes greater than self-interest.
This is the progress I want us to achieve during my presidency. These are the changes I am running for president to make. I want to leave office knowing that America is safer, freer and wealthier than when I was elected.
There are serious issues at stake in this election, and serious differences, but it should remain an argument among friends; each of us struggling to hear our conscience, and heed its demands. Each of us, despite our differences, united in our great cause and respectful of the goodness in each other. That is how most Americans treat each other. And it is how they want the people they elect to office to treat each other.
We cannot again leave our problems for another unluckier generation of Americans to fix after they have become even harder to solve. I'm not interested in partisanship that serves no other purpose than to gain a temporary advantage over our opponents. We are all compatriots. We are fellow Americans. I intend to prove myself worthy of the office, of our country and of your respect. I won't judge myself by how many elections I've won. I won't spend one hour of my presidency worrying more about my re-election than keeping my promises to the American people.
And now, I call on you to do your part in making this vision a reality. I am not presumptuous enough to think that I will be elected our next president without your help, and I humbly ask you today to make a contribution to my campaign of any amount to ensure my campaign is fully funded and able to take my message and vision directly to every American voter.

Cuyahoga County Recorder Flees Country

Radio reports are saying that Pat O'Malley, the Cuyahoga County Recorder, will soon be stepping down from his position - but he is out of the country at this time.
WRONG! It has been confirmed that Pat O'Malley has already resigned his position and has FLED the country to avoid possible prosecution. His letter of resignation was received at Cuyahoga County Democratic Party Headquarters this afternoon.
While not yet made public - we can say O'Malley is running from allegations of State Rep. Matt Barrett type accusations - only the models in his pictures were MUCH, MUCH younger. O'Malley's previous indiscretions and follies will pale in comparison to these allegations.
Names being circulated on the short list for his replacement are -
Warrensville Hts Mayor Marcia Fudge, Cleveland Clowncilman Joe Simpleman & Patricia Britt, former Cleveland Councilwoman & current Clerk of Council.

Dann Steps Down
Earlier in the day Dann had a conference scheduled for 12:00pm. It was expected that Dann would announce his resignation at the time. Dann - never showed for the conference. His spokesman claimed to be unaware of any announcements scheduled for today.
Rumor has it that Kent Marcus, son of former Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Judge Dick Marcus (who was an R), will be appointed interim AG. It is understood that Marcus will remain in this capacity until the November election. It is expected that Treasurer DICK Cordray will be the democrat candidate to replace Dann at that time.
It is said that if Cordray wins the AG election, Rev. Strickland will appoint Cuyahoga County Prosecutor Bill Mason to complete Cordrays term as Treasurer.
Betty Montgomery, Jim Petro and Rob Portman have all turned down overtures from the ORP to serve as the Republican candidate. Ron O'Brien, who would be forced to terminate his re-election campaign for a shot at AG, has apparently also decided against running.
NO VEEP SLOT FOR HILLARY

It would be an act of terminal insanity for Barack Obama to name Hillary Clinton as his vice presidential candidate. It would not help him get elected, it would drag all the Clinton controversies into the general election, and having her down the hall in the West Wing would be a recipe for disaster, dissension and civil war. Other than that, it’s a hell of an idea!
Start with the election. There are two kinds of people who backed Hillary in the primaries: her original supporters and those who joined her later in the game. Her original backers are all solid Democrats whose arms would fall off before they would back anyone who is pro-life. They are true believers, feminists, pro-choice advocates, older party loyalists who would prefer Hillary, may have doubts about Obama, but will always fall in line and vote Democratic. The more recent converts are people who are turned off by Obama’s connection to the Rev. Jeremiah Wright and who worry that he might be a closet black radical. Their latent racial fears were heightened by the revelations about Obama’s links with Wright, and they voted for Hillary as the lesser of two evils. Putting Mrs. Clinton on the ticket will do nothing to assuage these fears. One wonders if these blue-collar, downscale, racially motivated voters would actually support Hillary against John McCain if she were to win the nomination. They certainly wouldn’t follow her into Obama’s camp just because she was on the ticket.
Obama’s key need in the election is to demonstrate his experience and ability to do the job despite only minimal federal experience. Running with someone whose experience he, himself, derided will hardly solve this problem. Voters only credit Hillary with having experience when her record is compared with Obama’s almost total lack of a record. Against McCain, she would do nothing to close the experience gap. Better for Obama to choose a senator with long tenure — a Chris Dodd (Conn.) or Joseph Biden (Del.) — just as Dukakis chose Bentsen, Bush chose Cheney, and Kennedy chose Johnson.
If Obama put Hillary on the ticket, it would re-raise all of the questions about Bill’s income sources, what he did for Dubai, what he did for Frank Guistra — the Canadian mining executive who gave millions to the Clinton library and whom Bill introduced to the president of Kazakhstan — and whether he will make public his library donors. Who needs those issues, especially when Obama is trying to wage an anti-Washington-influence-peddling campaign?
Finally, having Hillary in the West Wing would be a nightmare. There is no way that Obama could trust her. She would be a throwback to the old days when the president did not consult the vice president on anything, a situation which led Vice President John Nance Garner, FDR’s VP during his first two terms, to call the office “not worth a pitcher of warm piss.”
If Obama got into trouble, he would have to look over his shoulder at Hillary and he would always have both Bill and Hillary around to show him up, hog the limelight, generate controversy with ill-considered remarks, and make life difficult. Would Bill stop giving speeches and making money? Would his ties with Arab nations and questionable American and Canadian businessmen end? Or would Obama have to explain his VP’s husband’s business dealings over and over again.
And, the ultimate question: Can Bill Clinton be put back into the bottle? Is this recent spate of angry, finger-wagging bursts of inappropriate outrage a permanent fixture of his public persona? Does Obama want to take the risk of having him on the team and having to account for his conduct?
Hillary would add no votes to Obama, she would dog his campaign with scandal, she would be disloyal in office, and her husband would be, at best, a huge distraction. Case closed.

The last thing I read was some mind-numbed insanity about the Buckeye State Demoncrats voting not to endorse him. Everyone seemed to think non-endorsement is a big deal. I don't get that. He's already got the job and seems to think this will blow over if he just hunkers down and rides it out. Given the chad-punchers' short attention span, he might be right, on that count. If all else fails, he can steal a page from the Elephant Clan's playbook and run for re-election in a couple years under the slogan: I know that I really, really suck, but my opponent sucks more.

The last man standing, Attorney General Marc Dann, is the bull’s-eye in a political firestorm that shows no sign of abating. So far, Marc Dann’s response to calls for his resignation by editors, members of his own Demoncrat party and his foes in the Elephant Clan is ‘hell no, I won’t go’. As fun as that sounds, it gets better.
Unlike every rational adult in Ohio, Attorney General Dann seems convinced that he didn’t do anything that meets the criteria of an impeachable offense. Since he’s the top legal eagle for the state, his assessment can’t be trumped very easily. The state could, of course, call for the appointment of an independent investigator, but that, too requires the cooperation of Ohio’s Attorney General, Marc Dann. Holy Catch-22 on steroids, Batman!

Ohio Attorney General Marc Dann is expected to announce his resignation later today, The Plain Dealer has learned. He planned to break the news to his senior staff this afternoon.
The decision came as Dann faced intense pressure from fellow Democrats and Republican critics who said he was not fit to continue as the state's top lawyer.
It also followed action targeting Dann in the Ohio General Assembly today by lawmakers from both parties. House Democrats this morning filed articles of impeachment against Dann, accusing him of misconduct and malfeasance in office. Troubles at the State Highway Patrol
A scandal has erupted in the Ohio State Highway Patrol and it may have a lot to do with Public Safety Director, Henry Guzman and some backroom political maneuvering. Word has it that Guzman has created complete chaos in his department. More...Henry Guzman should be a familiar name up here in Cuyahoga County. His incompetence has resulted in one of the biggest corruption scandals in the history of our area. This would be the expansion project at Hopkins Airport.
Prior to being appointed by Strickland, Guzman served as Cleveland's service director and then safety director from 1993 through 2001. His last job in Cleveland City Hall was in 2002 and 2003 when he ran the Office of Equal Opportunity, which oversaw minority participation in the Cleveland Hopkins International Airport expansion and other city projects.
Only after the corruption and fraud with the project could no longer be hidden - Guzman acknowledged the FBI was investigating the contracts for minority compliance.
Thanks to Rev. Ted - he has brought the same competence and cronyism to the State Highway Patrol.

Obama - The Infanticide Candidate?
Star Parker of WND has written a column asking - Is Obama really the man blacks need?
I don't know if he is - because I am not black. But I do know that he is not the man for me. This not because of his skin color but because of his overly liberal beliefs and his inability to exercise good character judgement.
Here is an example of his misguided character judgement... it took Obama over 20 years to figure out Rev. Wright does not reflect his views. 20 years to figure a person out! If elected President he only has 4 years.... Can this chance be taken when dealing with terrorist states wanting to harm the U.S.?
As offensive as Rev. Wright's remarks were for some Americans - there does ring some truth in his statements.

This act addressed cases where, during an abortion procedure, the live infant was actually born. The act would have banned killing the living child."
Here he goes - telling us about our struggles again. A crying, screaming baby - potential life? I guess now people, ( black, white, yellow, brown, red, etc...) will be accused of "clinging" to life! This thinking has earned Obama the label of being the "infanticide candidate."
Why would Obama be speaking at a Planned Parenthood conference? The roots of racism run deep & have long been established with Planned Parenthood Clinics. Spending years trying to disguise their racist views - Planned Parenthood was recently exposed again...

Last month, a pro-life student newspaper in California placed phone calls to PlannedParenthood clinics across the nation posing as donors requesting their money be designated for a “black baby” because, he said, “there are too many.” When at least four operators at different locations accepted the money, assuring the donors it would be used for an African-American woman’s abortion, the pro-life paper leaked their recorded calls to the media. Those Planned Parenthood workers who accepted the money on a racist basis remain employed and the organization has yet to apologize.

It is really a shame that although blacks tend to be more distrustful of abortions and not as supportive of them than their white counterparts, they form a larger portion of all the women getting abortions. It makes you wonder if they are being directed towards abortions. Studies have found that there is a larger number of abortion clinics in black neighborhoods than there are in other neighborhoods. Folks, it is time to wake up and understand what you are supporting (beyond planned parenthood)...

For the 90 percent of blacks who are casting votes for Obama, know that almost 50 million children have been aborted since Roe V. Wade in 1973, a third of which were black babies. Is this really the man whom our community needs?
I bet Day Gardner of the, National Black Pro-Life Union, who has stated - "Senator Obama doesn't care that abortion has obliterated the rights of more than 15 million black children since 1973" - would love to answer that question!

After subduing the Jihadikazes, the ILEAS men released a hostage who was wired with explosives. What’s that? You haven’t heard this story and can’t find it anywhere in cyberspace? HILLARY WON'T ADOPT THE HUCKABEE OPTION

OK, so Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-N.Y.) is staying in the presidential race despite losing among elected delegates, facing a slimming lead among superdelegates, losing the popular vote and behind by 2-to-1 in the number of states carried. She slogs on, hoping against hope for a sudden turnaround in the race.
Apart from the psychological reasons for her stubbornness, is there a more subtle political calculation going on?
Is she continuing her race so as to have a platform from which to continue to bash Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) in the hopes of so damaging him that he can’t win the general election? Is she doing this to keep her options alive for the 2012 presidential race?
Hillary is obviously entitled to keep running until Obama has secured the votes necessary for the nomination, and it is certainly understandable that she would want to run until the last popular vote is counted. But must she run a negative, slash-and-burn campaign? Must she use her time on the platform and on television to belittle, mock, deride and try to destroy the man who will eventually be the candidate of her own party?
Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee (R) felt similarly justified in staying in the race for the Republican nomination until Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) reached the majority threshold required for nomination. He contested the Texas primary vigorously, even though his earlier losses in South Carolina and Florida made it most unlikely that he could win the nomination. But he chose to run a positive campaign. He didn’t knock McCain. He just articulated the case for his own candidacy.
But Hillary won’t avail herself of that option because it does not serve her long-term fallback position: a shot at the nomination in 2012. If Obama is elected this year, he will seek reelection in 2012 and Hillary would have to face taking on an incumbent in a primary in her own party if she wanted to run, a daunting task. But if McCain wins, the nomination in 2012 will be open. And it might be worth having. McCain will be 76 years old and the Republican Party will have been in power for 12 years. Not since FDR and Truman has a party lasted that long in power. When the Republicans tried to do so, in 1992, they fell flat on their face.
Hillary is using white, blue-collar fears of Barack Obama to try to stop him from getting nominated or elected.
She is playing on his “elitism” by hammering him on blue-collar issues and is mincing no words in painting him as a stranger to blue-collar white America.
Hillary is attracting the votes of cops, firefighters, construction workers, union members. Are they in love with Hillary? They can’t stand her. But they are terrified of the Rev. Jeremiah Wright, William Ayers and the various influences to which Obama seems to be subject. By playing on those fears, Hillary is undermining Obama’s ability to get elected.
This is not a byproduct of her continued candidacy — it is the goal. She, the consummate realist, must know that she has no practical shot at the nomination herself after her numbing loss in North Carolina and her paper-thin margin in Indiana. But she welcomes the opportunity an ongoing candidacy offers to bash Obama and to drive a wedge between him and the voters he must have to beat McCain.
The question is how long Democratic primary voters and the party leadership let her go on hitting their ultimate nominee. Will they bring Hillary up short and speak out about the harm she is doing to their party’s prospects by way of her refusal to recognize reality?
Hillary doesn’t have to pull out. She is entitled to run in the remaining states. But she should curtail her negative campaign and adopt the Huckabee strategy: Maximize your own vote share, but don’t beat up the party’s nominee. Unless, of course, that is her goal all along.

Abu Hamza al-Muhajir, the leader of al-Qaeda in Iraq, has been arrested in Iraq, according to the country's defence ministry.
The arrest occurred in the northern city of Mosul and was reported on al-Arabiya TV and Iraqi state television late on Thursday.
Al-Muhajir, also known as Abu Ayyub al-Masri, was detained in a joint Iraqi-US operation.
He was caught in the Tayran area in central Mosul, 360km northwest of Baghdad, reportedly after police received a tip off of his location.

But, after a few seconds of contemplation, and gesturing with her fingernails, she told the reporter: "I want to rip his eyes out!"

On the campaign trail with Michelle Obama a reporter noted the above remarks from Michelle Obama. I do not believe Michelle was kidding when she said this remark - I believe she was being very honest. But like any politicians wife, I believe she will say or do anything to get him elected.
I believe Michelle is a phony, has forgot where she came from and is an elitist - I find nothing wrong with her remark. She should feel this way towards Bill Clinton - he has attacked her husband. Only after getting "a look" did she say she was kidding. My feelings about Michelle are NOT because she is black... I know many white people, Republican & Democrat, that share if not all, many of these faults. I do not like them either!
The problem I have is that I believe this goes to her integrity. For that matter, I question any persons integrity that feels they must not speak how they truly feel.

The following is very disturbing and is why I do not think Clinton's SC remarks were racist. If this woman can so easily mock and look down at her family - do you think the American public that she already looks down on has a chance?
Obama opened with some reminiscing. 'My people are from South Carolina,' she said. 'I don't know if y'all knew that ... In fact, my grandparents retired back down here, and before their death they were living here, attending a Baptist church in Georgetown.'
Obama was playing to her audience - later she riffed on 'those relatives who have plastic on the furniture' and reminded the churchgoers to get '10 other triflin' people in your life' out of bed and down to the polls on Saturday. Her appearances at the church, and many like it, were a key point of strategy in a state that would be the first real test of whether or not Barack could attract significant numbers of black voters. 'In South Carolina in particular, because she had family from there, it made a lot of sense for her to speak in the African-American community,' David Axelrod said.
After warming up the crowd, Obama launched into her stump speech, a 45-minute monologue that she composed herself and delivers without notes. Obama has been open about the value of her ability to speak to black audiences in cadences that reflect their experience...
Why would a black woman think it is a value that she can speak to a black crowd in their language?
Sounds like Rev. Wright may have been right on the Obama's!

A Cleveland municipal judge accused presiding Judge Larry Jones of trying to pressure her to withdraw an arrest warrant for the wife of City Councilman Roosevelt Coats, a political ally of Jones'.
Judge Angela Stokes made the accusation Friday at a hearing for Shirley Coats... Stokes said Jones confronted her Monday, soon after she ordered police to arrest Coats for failing to appear in court on the charge.
"It was a pretty hostile situation because he [Jones] was upset," Stokes said from the bench.
Jones, a former Ward 10 councilman who appointed Coats as his successor in 1987, later acknowledged having a "passionate" conversation with Stokes about the warrant. But in an interview with reporters, Jones denied ordering her to withdraw the warrant.
He said that Shirley Coats called him for help Monday and that he went to Stokes' courtroom and relayed Coats' excuse: her attorney told her to stay home because he intended - but failed - to file for a continuance. More...
Shirley Coats was jailed briefly by Stokes for falure to appear on charges concerning their vicious dog. The charges, the latest of several against the animal stem from four women being terrorized and kept holed up in a local beauty salon by this friendly frothing at the mouth Pit Bull named Diamond.
It is noted by PD columnist Phillip Morris that around election time Councilman Coats can usually be heard barking about dogs being the biggest problem in his ward has dismissed his dogged problems as a personal family issue. Morris states that this is not about Shirley Coats or the behavior of their cuddly tooth baring canine - but about the behavior of Counciman Coats...
It's a story of (you have to give me this) doggone hypocrisy.
It's a story about a veteran councilman who has constantly said he wants to attract small business to his ward, but shares a home with a dog committed to keeping them out.
But this much should be clear to him by now: A story about a councilman's dog scaring a neighborhood isn't personal.
If Coats truly believes that denizens of Ward 10 are in an uproar over Diamond getting Shirley busted, he's sorely mistaken.
Diamond has done us all a big favor. She has exposed him.
Also no strangers to the dog wardens is another Cleveland council person - Sabra Pierce Scott. It sounds like she needs a muzzle more than her dog!

City kennel workers have served Councilwoman Sabra Pierce Scott seven notices since 2006 that one or more neighbors have accused her dog of raising a ruckus.
Scott has never been ticketed or charged with any crime relating to her dog.
Scott's neighbor, David Dusek, alerted The Plain Dealer of the complaints against Scott after reading about Councilman Coats' wife being arrested Monday because she skipped a Cleveland Municipal Court hearing.
Dusek said he may be responsible for all seven complaints about Scott's pet.
He said he tried talking to Scott before calling the kennels, but he said she tore into him: "She screamed, 'Don't you know who I am? Don't you know what I can do to you?' " More...

Former Ohio Senator Howard Metzenbaum, who died in March at age 90, was an ultraliberal as a politician but also a savvy and very rich businessman. Before going to Washington in 1976, he had made a fortune on parking lots.Spend your whole life screaming about the corporate bad guys & Republicans and then act just like 'em.
As a three-term Democrat, he made his reputation in Washington by attacking big business and fighting anything that even hinted of deregulation. His attacks against Clarence Thomas in 1991 prompted a famous retort from the future Supreme Court Justice: "God is my judge, Mr. Metzenbaum, not you."
But we come today not to judge the late Senator, only to praise him for one last act of
personal financial acumen. Though a lifelong Ohioan, the Senator moved to Florida in 2002, according to a declaration of domicile filed with the Broward County Clerk's office in 2003. In doing so, he avoided paying his home state's income tax (top rate:
6.55%).
More important as he neared the end of his life, the former Senator also saved his family from paying Ohio's death tax, which features one of the highest state rates (7%) and lowest asset thresholds – $338,333 – in the country. Florida famously has no income or estate tax, which is one reason other than the climate that it is home to so many northern-born retirees.
Howard Metzenbaum thus denied the state in which he lived most of his life a parting financial gift. But he has at least provided the rest of us with a teaching moment in tax policy. If a liberal lion like Metzenbaum is willing to relocate late in life to avoid his state's death tax, maybe living politicians in Ohio will better understand how their confiscatory tax laws are driving its citizens to warmer climes. Hillary Can't Have It Both Ways
I feel Hillary did a good job of handling herself and most of all was able to answer questions with her version of the facts and not empty messages of O'Hope like O'Dope.

Cliton wants to have it both ways. She wants to portray herself as strong on terrorism, but will accept sanctuary cities. She believes that more illegal immigrants will report crime if they are not sent back to Mexico on a mule - this will help reduce crime rates. Then like a true democrat she acknowledged that many of these illegal immigrants are the ones that commit crime - huh? See why I'm not a democrat!
You ask how is this both ways? You cannot be tough on terror and be soft on illegal immigration - they go hand in hand. There has long been talk on the threat of terrorists infiltrating our country through the Swiss cheese like Mexican border. This is where most democrats miss the boat!
The crack down on our southern border has severely decreased the amount of illegal immigrants entering this country since 9/11. There are several contributing factors - but the extra vigilance is starting to act as a deterrence.
We can insert the democrat chorus here - the illegals contribute to the economy and help the work force....

It has long been established that terrorists are working with the Mexican drug cartels in the smuggling of money & drugs through the United States.
The traffickers from the drug cartels are becoming more violent in enforcing the established avenues of infiltration for their drugs - avenues that can be shared by & with Islamikaze terrorists!
David Johnson, assistant secretary for the INL, says that the illicit drug trade is directly linked to known terrorist groups in the Western Hemisphere and that these groups are employing terrorist tactics to traffic drugs into North America.
"These worrisome links have expanded to North America, and particularly in the case of some Mexican-based drug trafficking organizations,” Johnson said in a statement. “They have pushed past intimidation to employ terrorist tactics to enforce their drug trafficking monopolies on both sides of the U.S.-Mexico border.”
Johnson says the organizations have created a surge in violence that has claimed the lives of hundreds over the last several years and that the “future of democracy in the Western Hemisphere and our own (United States) national security interests are deeply and inextricably intertwined.” He called for the strengthening of regional cooperation to fight against the growing threat.
Because of the border crack down the drug cartels are becoming more creative in their ways of smuggling drugs into the United States - thus creating a continued national security threat.

Over the last two years, Colombian authorities and the U.S. Coast Guard and Navy have seized 13 submarine-like vessels outfitted for drug running. The five seized by American authorities were en route to Mexico or Central America, each loaded with 3 to 5 tons of cocaine.
The seizures point to a security threat that goes beyond drug trafficking. Many law enforcement officials are concerned that U.S. ports and shorelines could be vulnerable to terrorist attacks using such crudely built submarines.

If after reading this you are unable to see the potential danger posed by a porous border and creating safe havens - sanctuary cities - for the drug couriers & potential terrorists, please re-read the last sentence of the above U.S. military official.
Our next Commander in Chief or Comanderette in Chief must have a clear and objective outlook when dealing with immigration and the links with terrorism. If elected, clouded judgement like Hillary's may very well bring us a "Cloud" of fallout!

Barbies Banned in Iran
I have posted how the muslim misfits have banned dogs, closed down of coffee houses & imposed the usual sharia slap down of women Islamic style - even though the sharia slap down did have an Eliot Spitzer twist. Now the Shiite heads do may be going a little far... they are banning Barbie! From Persian Journal --
Iran's Prosecutor General Ghorban Ali Dori Najafabadi has issued a dire warning about the culturally "destructive" consequences of importing Barbies, Harry Potter toys and more from the West.
According to a report, Najafabadi has, in a letter to Iran's Vice President Parviz Davoudi, said: "The irregular importation of such toys, which unfortunately arrive through unofficial sources and smuggling, is destructive culturally and a social danger."
"The displays of personalities such as Barbie, Batman, Spider-Man and Harry Potter ... as well as ... unsanctioned computer games and movies are all warning bells to the officials in the cultural arena," his letter added.
Najafabadi's warning comes almost six years after Tehran launched an unsuccessful campaign to confiscate Barbies. More...

Bill to Ban Playboy & Hustler on Military Bases
It is pretty sad that while our soldiers are fighting our War on Terror that they would be subjects of attack by forces here at home. I am not talking about the usual anti-war liberals or elected Democrat officials either.
Republican Congressman Paul Broun (Mullah Broun), the representative from Georgia's 10th District, along with several other hypocritical, hooter-hating elected officials are trying to ban the sale of Playboy & Hustler on military bases.

The honor of every soldier that has ever served our country is sullied when the rights they are asked to defend are under attack by an elected official sworn to uphold them.“Our troops should not see their honor sullied so that the moguls behind magazines like Playboy and Penthouse can profit,” said Rep. Paul Broun, R-Ga., unveiling his House bill April 16.
His Military Honor and Decency Act would amend a provision of the 1997 Defense Authorization Act that banned sales of “sexually explicit material” on military bases.
The new language would “close existing loopholes” in regulations to bring the military “into compliance with the intent of the 1997 law,” Broun said. More...

His bill gets (readers be warned) blush-inducingly specific. It defines nudity, for instance, as the display of "human genitals, pubic area, anus, anal cleft, or any part of the female breast below a horizontal line across the top of the areola."
Broun says the point is pornography shouldn't be subsidized by taxpayers. And he insists nudie magazines have taken a toll on the armed services. Had Mullah Broun said our troops were forced to look at nudie pics of Rosie, Oprah or Hillary - this would be understandable! Could it maybe be that since we have tied our soldiers hands by again using them to fight a war restricted by politics (Ala Vietnam), the recent acceptance of convicted felons (again - Ala Vietnam - the later years) and re-, re-, re, redeployment's that is taking a toll on our troops?

Rep. Roscoe Bartlett, R-Md., who sponsored the law, says the military is skirting Congress' intent. He notes the material also could contribute to a hostile environment for female military personnel. "If soldiers want to read that stuff, they can walk down the street and buy it somewhere else," Bartlett says. "I don't want (the military) to help."
Nadine Strossen, a New York Law School professor who heads the American Civil Liberties Union, says the law effectively censors what troops get to read in remote areas or combat zones. "We're asking these people to risk their lives to defend our Constitution's principles … and they're being denied their own First Amendment rights to choose what they read," she said. More...
