From USA Today --
For the third straight month since the United States said it would improve processing and resettle 12,000 Iraqis by the end of the current budget year on Sept. 30, the number admitted has actually slid, the figures show.
The steady decline — from 450 in October to 362 in November and 245 in December — means the administration will have to allow in 10,943 Iraqis over the next nine months, or roughly 1,215 per month, to meet the target it has set for itself.
Bowing from pressure to accept more of these refugees (runaways) and at a faster pace, the Bush administration has again said they would increase the number of refugees from Iraq allowed in the United States.
In my opinion too many Iraqi's have abandoned their country and left Iraq....
According to the U.N. High Commissioner for Refugees, more than 2 million Iraqis have fled their country. Of these, 1.2 million are in Syria, 750,000 in Jordan, 100,000 in Egypt, 54,000 in Iran, 40,000 in Lebanon, 10,000 in Turkey and 200,000 in various Persian Gulf countries. More....
The U.N. refugee agency has referred more than 14,000 Iraqis to the United States for resettlement.
I am sure many of you cool-aid drinking, "let's pass out candy to the terrorists and they will like us," liberals think it is horrible I would say these poor people should not be allowed in our country.
Too Bad! They do not belong here - they belong at home fighting terrorists!
Think about it - this could be a way to end the war you guys hate so much! If they all went home and fought for their country.... our men & women could come home!
I fully understand many of these 2 million people are women and children and yea, yea, some people left for fear of their life. Big Deal! If these people want to control their country they need to go home and do it - not runaway.
Did WE not have women & children fighting in the revolutionary war to rid our country of tyranny? Couldn't we now be having tea & crumpets instead of beer & hot dogs had The Son's of Liberty fled the U.S. during the revolutionary war years?
I believe during the Civil War we had many brothers, uncles, fathers and son's fighting against each other. There were many women & children that fought for our country as countrymen and not soldiers.
Just like when the Germans invaded Pearl Harbor - we didn't run! When the Red Coats were coming - did we flee our country? No! Paul Revere fired up his Mustang GT convertible and took Betsy Ross to Wal-Mart for thread so she could sew us a flag?
So instead of opening the doors of our country for more Iraqi refugees, we should be giving them a gun and sending them home!
I agree that we shouldn't change our admission policy for any specific group- but to say that the US during WWII is like Iraq now is ridiculous.
ReplyDeletePrimarily because there was never any fighting IN THE US driving americans out. (Hawaii didn't become a state until 1959)
The Iraqi people are leaving now because they are afraid.
And a big part of that is our fault.
We invaded their country, destroyed all of their infrastructure, killed their leaders and opened the country up to terrorists.
Sure they were afraid or Sadam- but not enough to leave the country.
Joseph my WWII remark was in jest. Ever watch Animal House? But I do remember reading where Paul Revere was always turfing Dolly Madison's lawn with his Mustang!
ReplyDeleteYour selective response is very telling.
You remark on a obvious gaffe, but fail to address the real argument.
I noticed you had no remark about the Revolutionary War or the Civil War. We might even be able to through in the War of 1812. All fought on U.S. soil - NO Americans ran away! No they all, men, women & children, fought for freedom so we could live as we do today.
We are on complete opposite sides on the Iraq War, which we both know.
But Joseph - whether or not we should have or shouldn't have went into Iraq - you will find many Iraqi's ARE fighting to save their country from terrorists.
These groups called "Awakening Councils" are being formed in both Sunni & Shiite neighborhoods. Because of their success these councils are now being targeted by Al-Qaeda and other extremists.
Maybe at least the men of these 2 million runaways can go back to fight for their country.
As I sit here and write, I am thinking about your response and position that our troops should come home yesterday....
So we pull all our troops out today, more people flee Iraq - now what?
How would this effect Pakistan, Iran, Syria, etc....?
Please don't pee on my leg and tell me it is raining and give an answer that muslim's will play nice with us if we are nice to them.
i read the dribble from Jerid at BSB this morning on him supporting Barack Osama and why. Is hard for me to understand how an educated kid like Jerid and many others can be so ignorant to the truth.
