While "Joe the Plumber" was being introduced to the world in the last debate - we had our own "Joe the Conservative" standing down the local democrats during a pre-debate that took place at Pickwick & Frolic in downtown Cleveland. But this "Joe the Conservative," President of the Greater Cleveland Young Republicans, was not alone.
In a McCainesque fashion, "Joe the Conservative" came loaded for bear and was joined on stage by fellow GCYR member, Candice Miller. Like John & Sarah - Joe & Candice gave a sound thrashing to the local Obamaites representing the Cuyahoga County Dumbacrats.
From the Plain Duller --
Not about to let the Obamacrats hang the current financial crisis on the Republicans - Miller put an audience member in their place..."I'm fighting for McCain because I don't want socialist policies. I don't want to be carrying everyone on my back," said Joe Amschlinger, 30, president of Greater Cleveland Young Republicans.
Amschlinger earned applause from several tables when he talked about ending the entitlement mentality.
"You want to go to grad school? Sorry, you're going to sacrifice for it," he said. "It's not a matter of saying, 'I'm owed this, I deserve this.' "
An audience member asked the Republicans if they take responsibility for the Wall Street meltdown, Republican Candice Miller, 25, offered an unapologetic no. Clinton-era policies spawned the problems with Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, she said, and Alan Greenspan also deserves some blame for being "too loose with money."
"You want me to say, 'Oh, it's our fault,' when it's not," Miller said.
Not a single deregulation bill that would have affected the subprime situation was passed during the eight-year Bush administration, she said.
I couldn't have said it better myself!
Good job Joe & Candice - it is about damn time we can be proud of some local conservatives!
