Obama will have Direct Talks with Iran

Barack is a fool!

From Al-Jazeera

The US ambassador to the United Nations has said the new Obama administration will engage in "direct diplomacy" with Iran.

Susan Rice said at UN that the US remained "deeply concerned" about Tehran's nuclear programme and that the issue remained a top priority for the White House.

"We look forward to engaging in vigorous diplomacy that includes direct diplomacy with Iran," she said after meeting Ban Ki-moon, the UN secretary-general, on Monday. More...

While something does need to be done with Iran - direct talks is not the answer. We are not even close to be in a position where we, the US, should be having talks with Iran.

At this point in time, especially with the recent events in Gaza, the US should let events play out with the Arab players in the region. The risk of failure with Iran negotiations will weaken us in Iraq and Afghanistan - not to mention the radical Islamists.

In this instance and at this time, a stalemate or even the appearance of Iranian aloofness of this invitation will be turned into a propaganda victory for Iran. When there is a victory of any sort for Iran, it is also a victory for radical Islam.

And yes, Russia will also be watching and waiting. By prematurely and openly extending a hand - Barack has set himself and the United States up for failure.
