Off to see O'Wizard

The so-called defenders of the "Ohio working man" are heading down the Yellow Brick Road to D.C and are off to see O'Wizard.

Forget about asking for brains, a heart or courage - they'd share them on the way home anyway - this band of merry misfits come bearing gifts most cannot afford for a remote chance of seeing Barack O'Wizard...

From elected officials to former office holders to proud volunteers, Ohio Democrats have purchased all of the state party's 150 allotted rooms at the Renaissance Mayflower Hotel, a historic luxury hotel not far from the White House. Only a handful of Ohio rooms are being held for last-minute VIPs.

The price tag for celebrating the election of Democrat Barack Obama rivals the extravagance of the bygone housing boom: A minimum of $4,000 for the four-night stay beginning Saturday, Jan. 17. For $6,000, Democrats can upgrade their rooms to suites.

But money doesn't buy access, at least not in this case. It only gets Ohioans on the "priority list" for tickets to official inaugural events, which are managed by the Presidential Inaugural Committee.

Ohioans buying hotel rooms at the Mayflower get two tickets to Ohio's black-tie-optional gala on Sunday, Jan. 18, which includes a live band from the D.C. area and an appearance by Ohio State University's marching band.

Nearly 700 people have purchased tickets to the gala, which cost $300 apiece, according to Bill DeMora, of the special committee making arrangements for the Ohio activities.

Former U.S. Rep. Dennis Eckart, who was an adviser to Obama's Ohio campaign, said the price of the hotel package is a bargain. (PD)

I'm wondering how many other people in Ohio can afford a bargain like a $1000 per night room?

Even though O'Wizard's inaugural festivities will have all the pomp and circumstance of OZ, sad to say, unlike the movie, it is not a dream - but a nightmare. Unfortunately for us, the curtain will not be pulled back exposing this fraud too!

  1. I was lucky and got to stay at my grandma's the last two inaugurations for free. Obviously I am not attending this time.

  3. Ben,

Maybe you should go live blog it. As for paying your way - don't worry. I just heard a newspaper was asking for a bailout. Maybe you could ask for a blogger bailout to pay the way.

When a Democrat is in a $1000 a night room it is called a good deal, when it is a Republican it is called waste money living high on the hog!

Anon -- thank you for stopping by and commenting. I am glad you enjoyed the blog and hope you stop back by.
