Voinovich - The GOP's own Kucinich?

iHas Voinovich been playing with Kucinich to much? Did Kookcinich let Voinovich use his aluminum foil hat? Is little man Voinovich, turning into the GOP's local version of Kucinich?

He must be, first he supports the shamnesty program and now he wants to pull out of Iraq, but not abandon our mission! Pull out and not abandon our mission???

With his head still in his ass and standing on phone books while speaking to the media, Little George, emulating his new idol Kookcinich, tried explaining his betrayal.

From the PD --
Washington - Sen. George Voinovich on Tuesday joined the top Republican on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee in calling for U.S. troops to leave Iraq.

In a letter to President Bush, the Republican from Ohio called for "gradually and responsibly reducing our forces" and requiring the Iraqi government and its neighbors to play a larger role in stabilizing Iraq.

"A policy of responsible military disengagement with a corresponding increase in nonmilitary support is the best way to advance our nation's interests in Iraq and to achieve our primary goals: to help Iraqis stabilize their country and improve the security of the United States," Voinovich said in the letter. The Columbus Dispatch reports --

In his letter, Voinovich told Bush he didn't come by his new stance easily.

“Though it may seem contradictory, I believe we can accomplish more in Iraq by gradually and responsibly reducing our forces and focusing on a robust strategy of international cooperation and coordinated foreign aid,” Voinovich writes. “We must not abandon our mission, but we must begin a transition where the Iraqi government and its neighbors play a larger role in stabilizing Iraq.

“As you know, I have been concerned about the situation in Iraq for some time. Nonetheless, I was steadfast in voting against any legislation that would limit or cut off spending for the war,” Voinovich said in the letter, released this afternoon by his office. “I have consistently opposed attempts to limit your powers as our commander-in-chief, and I have openly opposed any form of precipitous withdrawal that would threaten our men and women in uniform, endanger American interests, or abandon the commitment we have made to the people of Iraq who do want our help.”

But now, “It's in their (the Iraqis') best interest to become part of the solution instead of sitting on the sidelines,” Voinovich told the Associated Press. More....

To bad Voinovichs' dad did not pull out!

  1. You should listen to the clip of Rinovich on Sean Hannity's show. The blabbering old fool didn't even know what The Fairness Doctrine is. Man, I hope he decides to retire so Rob Portman can run for the seat.

  2. Do I have too?

I admit to not knowing much about Portman, but an empty seat would be better representing conservatives than Little George is right now.

Rinovich needs to wake up quickly or publicly be slapped back in line Ohio GOP members. This outcry needs to come from rank and file members, not from Bennett & his blow hards at the state level.

Forget the reactionary calls of remember this on election day. Rank & file members need to call him on the carpet NOW!

  3. Have our the political marketers successfully divided this country, such that in the name of defending conservative/liberal/GOP/Democrat ideology, we can not longer have an honest, open debate (and possibly disagree) on something as important as war & peace?

I grew up in the Midwest & now live in San Fran. I expect a more radical over-the-open stance from some granola hippy in Berkley living off the grid on a chicken farm. But the Midwest has been a more level headed pragmatic tolerant and sane take on things.

Where did that all go so wrong?

Has red meat conservative talk radio & Air America, FOX news, MSM, etc worked it's magic so that the debate is now: fock the message, kill the messenger?

This war has consumed vast amounts of our country's resources and I'm not convinced the result has been much more than handing Iran all the goals it sought in it's 8 year war with Iraq during the 80s.

    But that's just my take.

But let's save the personal attacks for another time, the important question is "Now What?"

I take it from your writings and comments you don't support a change of tactics, well then offer some insights & opinions on how 'staying the course' is working and will eventually reach some desire conclusion.

The middle and lower social economic part of our society make up the reservist & soldiers in combat (Pat Tillman exception noted). That's you & I. As my Indian buddy said, "When elephants fight, the ants get trampled".

We don't have the luxury of slamming the messenger when the stakes are this high.
