WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Sen. John Kerry, the Democratic presidential nominee in 2004, announced Wednesday that he will skip a second run for the White House to concentrate on bringing the war in Iraq to an end.
"As someone who made the mistake of voting for the resolution that gave the president the authority to go to war, I feel the weight of personal responsibility to act to devote time and energy to the national dialogue and an effort to limit this war and bring our participation to a conclusion," he said in a speech on the Senate floor. WASHINGTON — Sen. John Kerry, the 2004 Democratic presidential nominee, announced Wednesday that he won't make a run for the White House in 2008.
"I’ve concluded this isn’t the time for me to mount a presidential campaign," Kerry said on the Senate floor. "It is the time to put my energy to work as part of the majority in the Senate to do all I can to end this war and strengthen our security and our ability to fight the real War on Terror." Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., took to the Senate floor after Kerry's announcement to thank him for his work in the Senate.
"He is one of those people that has meant so much to me. And being a role model for the things that I do and for the things that I think the American people should focus on," Reid said. More...
