Well this is not good for any Ohio conservatives or GOP members....
Kevin DeWine, the Ohio GOP Deputy Chairman & Blowhard Bennett's replacement, sounds like he is taking a cue from the Democrat supporting members of the RPCC. DeWine will be taking advice on rebuilding our lost soul of a party from Ohio Democratic Party Chairman Chris Redfern.

From The
Columbus Dispatch --
The Republican Party is experiencing an "identity crisis" and must "rethink" how it can compete in the future, the state party's deputy chairman said yesterday after watching Ohio complete its transition from "red" to "blue."
"We have left as a party our conservative roots based in fiscal responsibility and limited government," said Kevin DeWine. "We have exchanged it for large government expansion, arguably the largest government expansion in the history of our nation.
"If you add to that the growing frustration over a five-year war, the unpopularity of a Republican president, the distracting fixation on social issues, and never-ending ethics concerns both in Ohio and nationally … the electorate said it had enough, and I can't say that I blame them," he said.
On Tuesday, Republicans lost the White House to Democrat Barack Obama with Ohio's help, lost two and possibly three Ohio congressional seats, and surrendered control of the state House of Representatives to Democrats for the first time in 14 years.
After monopolizing state executive office as recently as 2006, Republicans hold one statewide executive - auditor.
There was some good news for Republicans. They maintained their 21-12 Ohio Senate majority and their monopoly of the state Supreme Court.
But Mr. DeWine said Republicans must engage middle-class, suburban, women, African-American, and young voters and adopt a "zero tolerance" for misconduct.
"We have to do a better job connecting on campuses," he said. "It's my belief that our party has lost a generation of young voters. The number of voters between the ages of 18 and 29 who look at the Republican Party as a party of choice for them is gone."
Despite Mr. DeWine's talk of a wider, more-inclusive tent, Ohio Democratic Party Chairman Chris Redfern said the Republican Party closes its doors too quickly to those who might want to come inside.
"There are good Republicans who can't win because the party only approves a pro-life position," he said.
"Of the 53 Democrats [in the House] on Jan. 1, 20 are pro-life. We don't have a litmus test. Kevin's words vindicate my long-held position that the Republican Party is not an inclusive party. They have a number of litmus tests that exclude good candidates."
Republicans are looking ahead at 2010, a crucial state election in which the GOP must make gains or risk sitting on the sidelines for years to come.
Three of the seats on the panel that will redraw state legislative districts in 2011 will be on the ballot in two years - governor, secretary of state, and auditor. If no changes are brought about in that election, Democrats will control that panel 3-2 and be in position to redraw the map that will shape Ohio House and Senate elections for the next decade.
Mr. DeWine threw out a series of names that he considers to represent the party's future, among them U.S. Sen. George Voinovich, Speaker of the House Jon Husted, Auditor Mary Taylor, and state Sen. Mark Wagoner (R., Ottawa Hills).
"What the party needs is a new set of faces and a new set of ideas," he said. "It's what the party needs to do not just here in Ohio, but what the party needs to do nationally."
RINOvich a future leader of our party? The guy should be put out to pasture! That dipweed DeWine would even make a statement so stupid - shows our party's future with him as chairman will not be much better than it is now.It sounds as if DeWine just got in Columbus last week! Has he not been there for awhile? We have completely ignored younger Republicans over the years and at campaign times. They would much rather spin their wheels on the "get out the vote" concept that no longer is the cure-all for winning elections.More inclusive tent? One just needs to look at the Republican Party of Cuyahoga County to see blurring our values and becoming more democrat does not work. Many of the big-wigs in the RPCC routinely support democrats - even when they run against Republicans and this does not win us elections. Though it does help the personal & financial ambitions of some - Pogue, Gunning, Synenberg, etc...Even promoting left-leaning candidates like our loser candidate for County Commissioner, Debbie Sutherland (supported tax increases - questionable on pro-life), does not guarantee victory. A bad candidate, like Sutherland, is a bad candidate. Combine that with poor campaign tactics and a broken party structure, like the RPCC & the Ohio GOP, and it will be a long time before we win decisively again.Deputy Chairman DeWine the change we need is not being drowned in Democrat kool-aid served up by Redfern!I want to thank Dave F - a fellow RPCC Central Committee member - for sending this article.
I have to wonder if DeWine's 'zero tolerance' for misconduct includes donations to or endorsements of Democrats by Republican Central or Executive Committeemen? Automatic Expulsion of such members could only strengthen our Party.
ReplyDeleteI would imagine on the state level he might be able to try and do something.
ReplyDeleteIf you are meaning DeWine should or could get rid of people at the county level, namely the RPCC, he can't. But, as explained to you MANY times before... our bylaws already allow for those provisions. We do not need any unnecessary or overly restrictive bylaw changes to address these violations and we surely don't need DeWine.
Thank You for your opinion King. It is worth exactly what I paid for it.
ReplyDeleteGOP Fizzle - I don't see where your two cents was asked for here to begin with. YOU are a perfect example of why the flunkies in the RPCC have been allowed to run so rampant.
ReplyDeleteActually the free show you put on when Frost shut you up & made you look foolish in a meeting because you did not know procedure was priceless!
anybody with any knowledge about party politics would know that DeWine has no say so at the county level.
ReplyDeleteThat DeWine would think Voinovich should be a future leader shows he is out of touch with reality and what ails our party.
Flame you read the above article and all you get from it is that you want DeWine to help throw out members for making donations or supporting democrats?
Do you think token donations of $50 - $100 to a democrat judge hurts? With the county run by the dems, for some attorneys this is a matter of survival.
Mr. Flame I am a gun owner and a Republican. What am I to do when a Republican person for office does not support the 2nd Amendment and the Deomrat person does?
ReplyDeleteAm I to vote for the Republican even if they do not best represent my views? According to what you are saying, if I vote for a pro-gun democrat instead of an anti-gun republican I should be kicked out of the party.
Mr. Flame, if this is the type of party you plan on rebuilding I wil have no part of it. This type of close-minded thinking will do nothing but chase people away.
Mr Anonymous, I too am a gun owner. I will surely not vote for someone who does not support the second amendment. How you or I vote is our own personal business and I never expressed anything contrary to that opinion.
ReplyDeleteI have a proposal for the RPCC,that before the candidates approved by the Scanning Committee are brought before the Central Committee for ratification we get a list of the names so we can run them and find out what their views are. An informed Committee may stop some of the less than desirable people from becoming our candidates in the first place. The scanning Committee serves at the pleasure of the Chairman who definitely serves at the pleasure of the Central Committee. No More rubber stamps on Republican Candidates.
Also as an officer of the Republican Party ( a partisan position) one would be expected not to DONATE to or ENDORSE a Democrat. If you want to go into the voting booth as Joe Citizen and vote for the Democratic Candidate then I guess you will.
I have had occasion where I definitely disagreed with the choice of our Republican Candidate(s) but I do them no harm. I simply busied myself working on the campaigns of those I could in good conscience support and left the others to rise or fall on their own merits.
Anonymous 1,
ReplyDeleteI do not care per say if Joe Citizen gives monies to a Democrat.
I DO however take exception to a Republican Officer doing so as it causes a grave conflict of interest.
This could explain why certain Judges are always unopposed.
I would be willing to bet donations by Democratic Officers to Republican Judges are not tolerated by that Party.
We will continue to lose races as long as the "every man for himself" mentality persists within our Party. Betting against your own team never produces a win.
I must say I agree with GOP Flame to a certain extent. Gun owners and activists should not be afraid of being tossed out of the Party for supporting pro-2nd Amendment Democrats if the Republican is not and the Democrat is endorsed by the NRA or other gun rights organizations. I am a Central and Executive Committee member and a NRA Election Volunteer Coordinator who has had to campaign and support Dems over Reps because the Dem is endorsed or A rated and the Rep is a loser. This election cycle most RPCC endorsed candidates were anti-2nd Amendment, F rated and all lost.
ReplyDeleteWhat I do is far different from Synenberg and others or is it?
WC,
ReplyDeleteBeing a Central Committee member you should have more of an input as to who we nominate for office. The names of potential candidates should be given to the entire Committee prior to ratification.
Also it is our obligation to be present at the Central Committee meetings to ensure that our voices are heard. I believe if their are enough voices speaking out we can effect policy.
I believe wholeheartedly that without Second Amendment rights you will soon have No other rights.
Please do not take that out of context to say I would or could support or endorse a Democrat. I take my oath of office quite seriously and am a Republican Party Officer.
I would like to see a 2nd Amendment plank in our County Party Platform. That is perhaps something you could lead the charge on. I would be in full support of such an effort as would many other Central Committeemen.
What I presume to say is,let us try to effect a change in our own Party before we go helping the scoundrels in the Democratic Machine.
What happens to the tens of thousands of dollars these folks give to Republicans when you throw them out of the party for giving a few hundred dollars to democrats in a primary election?
ReplyDeleteIt's a matter of practicality. If we throw our donor class out of the party we are done for, forever.
Anon at 1:27 a.m.-
ReplyDeleteWhat has that donor class really done? No countywide offices. No judges on the court of appeals. No judges probate, juvenile, or domestic relations. Soon to be just five judges on common pleas. A recent defection of mayors. The list goes on and on.
So how much worse off would the party actually be if those donors were given the heave ho? Quite frankly these people are no better than a Wesley Mouch or Jim Taggart- parasites that have sucked the party, city, and county dry.
-Greg H.
That is just completely stupid.
ReplyDeleteNo Greg is right on. SOME OF THOSE OFFICERS WHO HAVE SUPPORTED DEMOCRATS HAVE ALSO BEEN QUITE GENEROUS TO THE REPUBLICAN PARTY AS WELL. I AM AWARE OF THE PRACTICAL CONSIDERATION THAT SUCH GENEROSITY MAY BE LOST IF THIS CODE OF CONDUCT SHOULD BE ADOPTED. HOWEVER I HAVE FOUND THAT IN OHIO COUNTIES WHERE SUCH RULES ARE ENFORCED, THEIR BUDGETS ARE NEARLY DOUBLE OURS.
ReplyDeleteI BELIEVE THAT MORE MONEY WILL BE AVAILABLE WHEN PEOPLE CAN RESPECT AND TRUST A PURE AND UNCORRUPTED PARTY ORGANIZATION, NOT TO MENTION REGAINING THE RESPECT AND TRUST OF HARD-WORKING GRASSROOTS VOLUNTEERS WHO DO NOT WANT THEIR EFFORTS UNDERMINED. BEST OF ALL, MORE GOOD REPUBLICANS WOULD BE WILLING TO RUN RACES IF THEY KNEW THEIR REPUBLICAN OFFICERS AND LEADERS STOOD BEHIND THEM AND WOULD NOT BETRAY THEM IN THEIR HOUR OF NEED, OUT OF PERSONAL, PROFESSIONAL ,OR POLITICAL INTERESTS.
1.) Candidates would be less likely to run because they'd be able to raise less money.
ReplyDelete2.) how is donating to joe cimperman at all undermining republicans? its a primary!
3.) honestly why would anyone want to run for office in this party? we have people spreading false rumors about candidates supporting Obama and we have candidates who run for county commishioner torn apart for possibly being pro choice when their job has NOTHING to do with abortion.
4.) Please cite me the counties that raise exponentially more than Cuyahoga County while only allowing their donors to give to Republicans.
to th emost recent anon-
ReplyDeletedo you know what happenes to the $$$ when its donated to a Budish or Degeeter? they turn around and give that money to other dems...same with cimperman. so GOP money is ultimately being used to hurt republican candidates.
and i don't know anyone who was against deborah because she may have been pro-choice...i think most were upset with her because she sided with hagan and his decision to allow the commissioners to unilaterally impose the icnreased sales tax on the people without a vote.
by the way, how is it a "false rumor" that somone supports obama when there is evidence that said candidate had an obama sign in her front yard?
ReplyDeleteOnce again, when the questions of how does the "donor class" help the party and how would the party be in worse shape if they left have been asked, there is a resounding silence from the peanut gallery.
