An Ohio Sanctuary City?

An Ohio city that belongs more in Mexifornia than here is pondering legislation that will contribute to the illegal immigrant problem we have here.

After a recent raid by ICE that netted 5 border jumping banditos making tacos at a local Mexican beanery, the City of Oberlin’s Human Relations Commission has made the recommendation that they become a “sanctuary city.”

From MSNBC --
Officials in Oberlin are considering a proposal to allow illegal immigrants to seek help from police or fire departments without fear of being turned over to federal agents.

Critics say making the college town an immigrant sanctuary undermines the work of the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, an investigative arm of the Department of Homeland Security.

If the measure passes, Oberlin would join about 30 other cities that prohibit local officials from assisting immigration agents. City Manager Eric Norenberg says under the proposal, the city's police force would not assist immigration agents unless ordered to do so, possibly by a court.
While the Oberlin PD does not currently check immigration status, the chief of police voices some concern on selectively enforcing laws.

This selectivity should not come as a surprise to many of us. This “selectivity” of enforcing laws will soon become routine with the infection of socialism spreading through our country.

Much like the left’s push for “Selective Free Speech” (

politically correct acceptable speech), until their robed rubes on the bench rid of us of the laws they disagree with – enforcement will be selective.

  1. If Oberlin isn't going to enforce the law, they should go all the way and disband the police force. It would give the city more money to spend on peace and flowers and no one would have to worry about stepping on any precious little illegal toes.

  2. What the feds need to do (and this won't happen under Obama....or McCain for that matter)...

The feds need to take these 30 or so cities and open tiny federal district offices in each of those cities and just skip local law enforcement period. If eacah of these cities had like 10 federal officers catching illegals would be like hanging out fly paper in the back of one of those taco shops.

There job would be so easy...here is a typical day.

    8:00 AM
    "Good morning Ralph."
    "Good Morning Fred."

    8:15 AM
    Finish first cup of coffee

    8:30 AM
Ralph and Fred get to argue over who carries the shot gun and who drives the truck.

    9:00 AM
Arrive at the random taco stand or local government welfare office.
Card everyone waiting in line (or sweeping the floor)
    Discover they are not citizens.
    Load them into the truck.
    Process them.

    12:00 Lunch

2:00 tell Washington that this is the 27th day in a row we nabbed 50 or more illegals.

These "Safe Haven" cities should just be used a minow trap...throw some bread in the cage wait over night and check it in the morning.

  3. The sad thing is we spend $60K of our tax dollars per student at Oberlin College. Let the town pay their way for leftist indoctrination.

  4. Ralph,

Here is the OJJPAC Sanctuary Cities, USA list. It's the most up-to-date list in the U.S.

Oberlin's Resolution may be challenged in court later this year. We're getting our ducks in a row.
