Kucinich Takes Credit for Things He’s Never Done

(Cleveland , OH) In today’s 10th Congressional District Debate, Congressman Dennis J. Kucinich had the opportunity to make a legitimate case for his reelection. Kucinich instead spent the 60 minute forum making questionable claims about his own record and that of his opponent, State Representative Jim Trakas, who conversely outlined a series of public policy proposals that would uplift the Northeast Ohio economy.
“I want to go to Washington not to fight, but to work,” said Trakas. “Solutions, action, common sense, ‘Made in USA ’ and jobs. These will be the watchwords of my tenure representing Greater Cleveland in the U.S. House of Representatives.”
Kucinich made a series of statements that implied a Congressional tenure wholly opposite that of his actual record. Among the ‘accomplishments’ claimed were:
- An overwhelming influence in saving jobs at the Defense Finances Accounting Services (DFAS) Cleveland office, which actually was effected by the intervention of Rep. Steve LaTourette, Cleveland Attorney Fred Nance, The Greater Cleveland Partnership and other constructive civic leaders; including then State Representative Trakas. Congressman Kucinich’s initial response was to denounce President Bush while everyone else went to work saving the facility;
- Saving Saint Alexis Hospital and Deaconness Hospitals , which both closed;
- Saving LTV Steel, which lost half its workforce and was saved by a federal judge, not by The Congressman’s marches and rallies;
- Claimed to possess a good working relationship with members of the local business community, when in fact he has refused to meet with many business leaders because of his longstanding anti-employer ideology, dating to his failed Mayoralty.
“There is a stark contrast between Congressman Kucinich’s rhetoric and his results,” stated Trakas. “Over the past six terms, he has occupied himself primarily with pursuing an extreme ideological agenda that serves the Hollywood elite instead of Cleveland ’s working class, obstructing our region’s economic development through his unwillingness to work with local businesses, and globetrotting throughout the Middle East , denouncing American Policy.”
Trakas focused on both the failures of Congressman Kucinich to represent his constituents with his agenda to revitalize Greater Cleveland’s economy through traditional and new, high tech manufacturing jobs. “There is no reason ‘Made in America ’ can’t be a reality again,” Trakas stated. “We have the ability right here in Greater Cleveland to lead the way in reengaging the American manufacturer in our economy.”
Trakas continued, “This election is about representation. Congressman Kucinich has proved time and time again that he is more beholden to his Hollywood donors than his Cleveland working class constituents. When I am Congressman, I will put Greater Cleveland first and work diligently for the interests of our region. Cleveland needs a worker, not a talker.”

Trakas Demands ACORN Be Defunded / Former State Representative Notes Kucinich’s Silence on Election Fraud

“Anytime fraud occurs in the voting process there is obvious cause for concern,” stated Trakas. “We witnessed this in 2004, when fictional characters registered to vote, drugs were offered in exchange for registrations, and tens of thousands of illegally cast ballots had to be thrown out. This attempt to influence elections wastes the limited resources of the Board of Elections and causes justifiable concern among the electorate about just who is voting.”
Trakas continued, “What is most disconcerting is that ACORN receives funding from the federal government to the tune of millions of dollars in annual grants and then uses those federal dollars to further its political agenda. ACORN has proven without a doubt to be a blatantly partisan group that should not be considered for federal grants. When I am elected to Congress, I will fight to eliminate funding to these entities and refocus our government’s work on honest, nonpartisan, nonprofit organizations.”
In addition to its efforts to unduly influence public elections, ACORN actively lobbied Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae to make loans to people who could not afford them, helping to cause the financial collapse that is affecting everyone's investments, pensions, and retirement benefits.
Curiously, Congressman Dennis Kucinich, who demanded a recount of the votes cast in Ohio in the 2004 presidential election and voted against their certification, has been silent on this pervasive negative influence on the electoral process and quasi-governmental financial agencies.
“Dennis Kucinich fancies himself a champion of the little guy and a fighter against corruption. Where is he on this one?,” asked Jim Trakas . “This is a Congressman who demanded a recount in the New Hampshire primary despite no allegations of impropriety and sat silent while the members of his majority party in Congress permitted government sponsored enterprises to provide loans to people who had limited ability to pay them back. Here we have rampant corruption, misguided public policy, and inexcusable dereliction of duty in plain sight, and Congressman Kucinich can’t be bothered to get involved.”

With hard work, common sense, and a belief in the goodness of our people, I am confident that bright days lie ahead for Greater Cleveland.”The Trakas Plan can be viewed in its entirety at www.jimtrakas.org.

Trakas Calls on President To Declare “Market Holiday ”

FOR IMMEDATE RELEASE:
MONDAY SEPTEMBER 29, 2008
CONTACT:
JIM TRAKAS
216-621-5418 OR 216-534-6347
(INDEPENDENCE) 10th Congressional District candidate Jim Trakas (R-10) of Independence called upon President Bush to use broad executive power to shut down the nation’s financial markets while Congress can develop an equitable plan to deal with the financial crisis. “We need to take a page from Franklin D. Roosevelt and declare a market holiday for the foreseeable future to stop the bleeding of everyday Americans’ investments, retirement accounts, and plunge the American economy into a freefall,” said the former four-term state representative.
“Washington created this mess in a bi-partisan manner a decade ago when they encouraged and embraced sub-prime loans and risky investments in the late 1990s. Today, Washington has failed to clean up the financial mess left in its wake, and real people in real America are being adversely affected,” Trakas stated.
After the September 11, 2001 , terrorist attacks, the stock market was shut down for nearly a week so that the financial markets could recover, and the same approach was used for banks in the Great Depression. Trakas’ plan would be to shut down all financial markets until Congress and the President could agree on a plan acceptable to taxpayers, investors, and those looking out for the good of the country in the long term.
Trakas continued, “Before regular people lose all their savings, before 401(k)s and pension funds are wiped out, before credit gets so bad that employers cannot make payrolls, I call on President Bush to shut down the American markets, roll up his sleeves and work with the Congressional leadership to resolve this crisis for the sake of all Americans.”

MIDDLEBURG HEIGHTS, OHIO – Former State Representative and Congressional candidate Jim Trakas presented his plan on Wednesday evening for strengthening Northeast Ohio ’s economy at a town hall forum attended by residents of Greater Cleveland’s southwestern suburbs. Speaking to a full room at the Middleburg Heights Community Center during the first in a series of town hall events to be held throughout the 10th District over the next six weeks, Trakas highlighted actions he will take as Congressman to expand job opportunities through economic development initiatives for the region and new “Smart Trade” policy for the nation.
“The people of the 10th District deserve a representative who will focus his attention on the economic needs of our Greater Cleveland,” said Trakas. “I will fight every day to improve our regional economy by helping to create an environment that fosters job creation through lower taxes, less regulation, and trade policies that level the playing field for American workers. It is time to discard the failed ‘blame-others-first’ economic policy Congressman Kucinich has used during his 12 years in Washington and replace it with real solutions that leverage the strengths of Northeast Ohio , a magnet for legal immigrants from around the world, a center for innovation and technology, and a hub for manufacturing new products in this new century.”
The Trakas Economic Plan takes aim at the punitive tax, regulatory, and trade policies that have devastated Cleveland ’s economy. The plan, a top priority of the broader Trakas Plan for Northeast Ohio , includes the following solutions to get our regional and national economy back on the right track:
- Simplify the tax code, reduce corporate taxes, and eliminate the estate tax, all of which are impediments to job creation;
- Reform regulations to make it easier to hire Americans and make products in America, as regulation and taxation account for 30 percent of the cost of American-made manufactured products, hurting both consumers and sometimes driving jobs out of America;
- Implement “Smart Trade” policy to eliminate trading with cheaters and encourage trade partners to buy American goods;
- Establish “Manufacturing Coming Home Zones,” designating 10th District cities for special manufacturing companies to return to Cleveland from overseas to set up shop in zones of minimal regulation, reduced taxation, and environmentally production; and
- Encourage personal savings by eliminating the tax on checking and savings accounts for people making less than $200,000 a year – a double income tax that punishes investment.
During a wide-ranging dialogue with residents, Trakas also spoke of the roles energy, education , and immigration reform can play in revitalizing Northeast Ohio ’s economy. Trakas pledged that his tenure in Congress would focus on bringing Cleveland its “fair share” of economic development grants and other federal funding to help kick start the region’s economy, spur job creation, and encourage innovation.
“Made in America is possible again, and Greater Cleveland can return to being a manufacturing giant while growing into a technology center for the 21st century,” stated Trakas. “We need a Congressman who is willing and able to build coalitions with the diverse interests that make up our region. In Congress, I will partner with corporations, small businesses, management, and labor to create jobs once again in our communities. Working together, we can accomplish great things for our city.”

Wake Up Cleveland!

(INDEPENDENCE) Yesterday at the Democratic National Convention, Dennis Kucinich was greeted as a conquering hero by Democrats from California, Massachusetts, New York and elsewhere as he ranted on about the perceived wrongs of the Bush Administration. Meanwhile, the people of Cleveland are starting to wake up to his ineffective reign as Congressman and his votes and policy statements that hurt the economy, raised the cost of food and energy, and contributed to the regions economic woes.
"Dennis Kucinich has been a City Councilman, Clerk of Courts, Mayor, State Senator and Congressman in Cleveland over the past 39-plus years. He has served during the terms of six different Presidents, four since his sole, disastrous term as Mayor," said former State Representative Jim Trakas, 10th Congressional District Candidate. "Cleveland has been in a steady decline for 30 years. Presidents, mayors, senators, governors have come and gone, but one constant has remained: Dennis Kucinich."
"Dennis Kucinich's anti-employer, anti-jobs crusade over the past 40 years has devastated our regional economy and contributes overwhelmingly to the flight of jobs and out-migration of young people. "Remember the bar mill with over 100 jobs that then-Mayor Kucinich almost single handedly chased from town? Dozens of Corporate Headquarters and employers left Cleveland because of the Kucinich Administration directly, yet the blame is always on someone else, "commented Trakas.
Trakas pointed to the following points in the Kucinich Wake up Call to wake up voters in Ohio's 10th Congressional District:
Kucinich Rhetoric: "We now pay four times more for defense, three times more for gasoline and home heating oil and twice what we paid for health care."
Wake Up Call: Kucinich opposes drilling for oil in America and is actually opposed to both coal and nuclear power. These are the most inexpensive forms of energy, so his ideas would greatly increase the costs of energy in America, not decrease them. Further, he advocates for more crops to be grown as energy, which dramatically increases the cost of our food for working families. Kucinich also advocates for solar and wind power, and while important, solar power currently is six times the cost of coal power and wind is four times the cost. His "plan" would also continue to allow foreign countries to profit from America's real demand for oil that is not going away.
Kucinich Rhetoric: "Millions of Americans have lost their jobs, their homes, their health care, their pensions."
Wake Up Call: Kucinich has voted for and proposed billions of dollars in new costs and regulations on American industry, which has made us much less competitive and has driven companies to ship jobs overseas. He voted to outlaw the light bulbs we have been using, putting hundreds of electrical light bulb workers out of jobs, and allows for mercury tainted light bulbs to be imported to this country in droves from China.
Kucinich also voted for The American Dream Home Ownership Act that encouraged lending institutions to lower their standards, fool home buyers into thinking that they could put no money down, and deceive people who least could afford a home to buy one. This had a major negative impact in allowing so many people in Cleveland to lose their homes.
Look in the mirror, Dennis, you have great culpability for the loss of American jobs. By the way, Department of Labor statistics indicate that Unemployment in Cleveland was worse during the Carter-Kucinich years than it is today.
Kucinich Rhetoric: "Now we have another cold war with Russia, while the American economy has become a game of Russian roulette."
Wake Up Call: Kucinich opposes further expansion of NATO to protect the free countries that are threatened by Russia, including Ukraine. He opposes nuclear weapons, and has called for unilateral disarmament. Had Ronald Reagan listened to him, the Soviet Union would still exist.
What role does a 12-year, 6-term incumbent play in all of this? He has one of the most anti-jobs voting records in Congress, but it is all George Bush's fault. His votes have dramatically increased food and energy prices and made it more difficult for working families to eat and earn a living, but that is somebody else's fault. His energy ideas would enrich foreign countries and increase costs to American consumers, but that is not his fault. His tenure as an elected official in Ohio is mediocre at best, and was voted one of the single worst Mayors of all time in an independent analysis.
On November 4, 2008, with your help, Greater Cleveland is going to Wake Up and finally say "NO" to rhetoric, empty promises, political extremism, and the dark shadow that has been cast upon our city since 1969. Yes, Congressman Kucinich, Cleveland is going to wake up to the fact that you have done virtually nothing for us, while you have benefited tremendously, making $170,000 per year, with full pension and health benefits while supporting policies that have devastated your constituents. Finally, the people of Cleveland are going to rise up and give credit where credit is due.

Jim Trakas Outlines Comprehensive Energy Plan

>
“Greater Clevelanders need real solutions to rising energy prices. It should surprise no one that Congressman Kucinich and his colleagues have earned a single-digit approval rating, given their failure to address the high costs of putting gas in our cars and food on our families’ tables,” said Trakas. “While Congress has departed on a five-week vacation without providing relief to America ’s energy challenges, I have outlined a substantive plan to address these issues and to help get the northeast Ohio economy moving again.”
The 10-point Trakas Energy Plan provides Americans near-term relief to pain at the pump and in the grocery store – and offers long-term solutions to move our country in the direction of energy independence:
- Increase Domestic Oil Production
- Expand Refinery Capacity
- Develop Fuel Cell Technology
- Invest in Solar and Wind
- Expand Clean Coal Technology
- Reconsider and Utilize Nuclear Power
- Partner with Automobile Manufacturers
- Expand Natural Gas Use
- End the Ethanol Subsidy
- Develop a National Policy on Energy
Conversely, Congressman Kucinich recently mailed a “Community Update” to 10th District residents revealing his “5 Tips for Reducing Gas Costs,” which included driving the speed limit and accelerating gently. He also introduced the Gas Price Spike Act of 2008, a bill that would impose a windfall profit tax on oil companies and, if enacted, would result in higher gas prices as these new levies would be passed along to consumers. “Altering our driving styles and raising our taxes are not real solutions America’s energy challenges,” stated Trakas. “It is well past time for our nation to take charge of this issue and get on the road toward energy independence, using the classic strengths of American manufacturing, technology, and innovation.”

Kucinich Sides With Hamas Terrorists, Again!

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
FRIDAY JULY 18, 2008
CONTACT:
JIM TRAKAS
216-621-5418 OR 216-534-6347
( INDEPENDENCE ) In a letter to President George W. Bush (link here) dated July 16, 2008, Congressman Dennis J. Kucinich (D-10) of Cleveland absolves Hamas of responsibility for exploding tensions with Israel in the Gaza region, viewing blame cast in the direction of Hamas, “troubling.” Kucinich argued, “The responsibility for beginning and ending the humanitarian crisis is certainly not Hamas’s.”
Former State Representative Jim Trakas, candidate for Congress in Ohio ’s 10th District stated, “What is troubling is that Congressman Kucinich does not consider terrorist behavior as an underlying reason for instability and would not consider an end to such behavior as essential for solving the crisis. Hamas is one of the biggest stumbling blocks to peace in the Middle East .” The Gaza Strip was governed by Israel from 1967-2005. Throughout a series of accords, including the Israel-Egypt Peace Treaty, Oslo Accords and Israel ’s unilateral military disengagement in 2005, Israel has shown remarkable tolerance and patience in search of peace in the face of daily calls for its “extermination.” Congressman Kucinich puts the onus on Israel to mediate this crisis, despite its repeated cooperation in ceding land and power in the region, ignoring that Israel had been willing to bargain with the Fatah-controlled Palestinian Authority.
“Congressman Kucinich advocates a complete reversal of historic and bi-partisan U.S. policy on Israel to support a known terrorist organization. Blaming Israel for the problems in Gaza and exonerating Hamas is inexplicable and alarming,” said Trakas, who visited Israel as an Ohio State Representative in 2000 and saw first hand the bloody work of Hamas and Hezbollah.
Since the Hamas takeover of the Gaza Strip until the end of January 2008, 697 rockets and 822 mortar bombs were fired at Israeli towns. Additionally, Israeli and Egyptian security reports claim that Hamas continued smuggling in large quantities of explosives and arms from Egypt through tunnels. Egyptian security forces uncovered 60 tunnels in 2007.
Trakas concluded that he and Kucinich share very different visions of the ability to create peace in the Middle East . “If we follow the Kucinich plan, the U.S rewards Hamas for its murderous ways. If Hamas wants the humanitarian crisis to end, all they have to do is cease violence, following the lead of the former Fatah Government in the Palestinian Authority and recognize Israel . The ball has been in Hamas’ court for some time. Congressman Kucinich trusts Hamas despite years of deplorable and unimaginable terror. Israel continues to make concessions and is rewarded with mortar and suicide bombs. The suffering of the people of Gaza lies squarely on the shoulders of the terrorist government. Hamas’ past actions suggest no interest in coexistence, peace or cooperation. Why Congressman Kucinich trusts them is a confounding question.”

Trakas Challenges Kucinich to Reveal Costs of Impeachment

(INDEPENDENCE) Former State Representative and 10th District Congressional Candidate Jim Trakas today challenged his opponent, Congressman Dennis J. Kucinich to provide a financial accounting of his staff and any overtime costs for the futile attempts to impeach President Bush and Vice President Cheney. Measures that not even the Democratic Congressional leadership support.
“The people of the 10th District are paying for these juvenile political games, and it costs real money to put on the Kucinich Impeachment Circus,” commented Trakas. “While his constituents are still having trouble putting food on the table and fuel in their gas tanks, their Congressman is continuing to squander his time and his constituent’s money while not solving any of the real problems here at home. Kucinich continues to do the bidding of his far left wing Hollywood big money donors with pointless impeachment attempts.”
Trakas noted that between trying to impeach President Bush and Vice President Cheney, taxpayers have spent untold amounts of dollars in professional staff time, and costs with continuous unsuccessful results.
Trakas, himself a former legislator who authored -14- bills into Ohio Law, noted that staff and legal costs add up. “These types of frivolous games cost the people of Greater Cleveland money but derive no benefit to the working people of Cleveland.
Trakas concluded, “On behalf of the people of Greater Cleveland, I demand to know how much of their money is being wasted on Congressman Kucinich repaying the Hollywood leftists for their hundreds of thousands of dollars in campaign donations.”
Kucinich STILL ignoring Cleveland

Hollywood’s Favorite Son Continues to Ignore Cleveland
CLEVELAND, OHIO – Former State Representative Jim Trakas, candidate for Congress in Ohio’s 10th Congressional District, today commented on the intentions of Congressman Dennis Kucinich to push ahead with yet another futile attempt to have the U.S. House of Representatives impeach President George W. Bush.
“Congressman Kucinich just doesn’t get it,” stated Jim Trakas. “From Parma to North Olmsted and Lakewood to Walton Hills, people are hurting. Our economy is struggling, gas prices continue to skyrocket, and each time we go to the store it costs more to put food on the table. Congressman Kucinich apparently has spent so much time with wealthy Hollywood donors during his two presidential campaigns that he has forgotten what it is like to make ends meet.”Kucinich’s last attempt to impeach the president, just last month, was treated as an embarrassing distraction even by members of his own party. Speaker Nancy Pelosi has repeatedly stated that there will not be a vote on impeachment in her Democrat-controlled House, making the Congressman’s latest action yet another fool’s errand in a long string of pointless but time-consuming actions. It remains unclear how many staff hours have been spent researching and drafting the impeachment articles, time that could have been spent working to address Cleveland’s long-standing problems.

Congressman Kucinich Votes Against Boy Scouts
FRIDAY May 16, 2008
CONTACT: JIM TRAKAS
216-621-5418 / 216-534-6347
( INDEPENDENCE ) Continuing a theme that is becoming all too familiar, Congressman Dennis J. Kucinich (D-10) found himself as one of only eight members of the House of Representatives who voted Thursday, May 15th against H.R. 5872, a resolution honoring Boy Scouts of America with a commemorative coin.
Former State Representative and U.S. House Candidate Jim Trakas commented on the resolution stating, “I am on the Boy Scouts side. The Boy Scouts of America has long been an institution for boys to learn about nature, friendship, leadership and volunteerism. These are traits I am proud to see in our young men.”
Trakas was confused when learning of Kucinich’s vote, “I have a hard time understanding how anyone could vote against honoring the Boy Scouts of America. However, it makes sense when you understand that Congressman Kucinich voted against a resolution honoring the first responders and victims of The September 11th Terrorist Attacks as well as voting against implementing a nationwide Amber Alert system.”
Trakas continued, “Sadly, Congressman Kucinich has been spending too much time with his rich Hollywood friends to realize that those of us in Greater Cleveland admire the Boy Scouts and appreciate the values that scouting instills. They may not be weird Hollywood values, but they are Cleveland values!” commented Trakas, whose big brother was a Cub Scout.
Trakas is sending a letter to Scout Leaders throughout Greater Cleveland asking them to seek an explanation for this vote. “What part of The Scout’s Law of ‘A Scout is trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly, courteous, kind, obedient, cheerful, thrifty, brave, clean, and reverent’ does Congressman Kucinich disagree with? Trakas noted that he frequently attended Eagle Scout recognition ceremonies as a Member of The Ohio House of Representatives.
“This is yet another example of Congressman Kucinich voting Hollywood values over Cleveland values,” Trakas concluded.

Trakas for 10th District
From the PD --
In eight years in the Ohio House, Jim Trakas showed an independent streak that didn't always endear him to Republican Party leaders. Although we disagreed with him on some issues, Trakas demonstrated real leadership in arguing for larger state investments in higher education and technology.
Term limits required Trakas to give up his House seat at the end of 2006. Now he is seeking the Republican nomination for the 10th Congressional District seat held by six-term incumbent Dennis Kucinich.Trakas is by far the better candidate in the race and should be nominated.
It is this independent streak that has ALWAYS endeared me and others too Jim. If asked to describe Jim I would have to say first - he is one of the few people in the RPCC that has any integrity.
In my opinion, Jim could be described as very loyal & humble person with conservative values, but guided on doing what he thinks is right. As an elected official Jim was not afraid to make the hard decisions and do what he felt was right, regardless of what the party told him to do.
You ask - "morals & ethics in an elected official?" Yes, these morals and ethic's have not always made Jim a "party favorite," but has made him a "people's favorite." Sad to say this is something not often seen in our elected officials and why it is important we elect people like Jim Trakas.
Trakas will be facing Jason Werner in the primary. Being nice and showing restraint, the PD describes Werner in what can be considered the political understatement of the year.....
"....so extreme that they place him well to the right of many of the Republican Party's most conservative members."
Sporting a heavy hitting & high profile endorsement from his Mom & Grandmother on his website, Werner would be best suited running for class president or to the store for a gallon of milk. While his intentions may be honorable, his efforts are misguided and futile.
Trakas having served this area proudly and successfully as a councilman in Independence, in the Ohio House of Representitives for 8 years and as RPCC chairman, Jim knows exactly what is needed to recreate the Cuyahoga County area. While many of us will miss him, sending Jim to Washington will help not only District 10 but the Cuyahoga County area as a whole.
