Born and raised in Independence, Trakas went on to earn a degree in Social and Behavioral Sciences from The Ohio State University in 1987. Trakas won his first public office in 1991, serving on the Independence City Council for two terms. In 1996, Trakas was elected Chairman of the Republican Party of Cuyahoga County (RPCC), an office he held until 2005.
In 1998, Trakas was elected to the 15th and later 17th District of the Ohio House of Representatives. He served for four terms, also assuming the role of House Majority Whip for two terms. Trakas is now seeking the Ohio 10th Congressional District seat. His campaign headquarters is based in his hometown of Independence, where he currently lives with his wife, Anne Kennedy Trakas.
