( INDEPENDENCE ) Continuing a theme that is becoming all too familiar, Congressman Dennis J. Kucinich (D-10) found himself as one of only eight members of the House of Representatives who voted Thursday, May 15th against H.R. 5872, a resolution honoring Boy Scouts of America with a commemorative coin.

Former State Representative and U.S. House Candidate Jim Trakas commented on the resolution stating, “I am on the Boy Scouts side. The Boy Scouts of America has long been an institution for boys to learn about nature, friendship, leadership and volunteerism. These are traits I am proud to see in our young men.”

Trakas was confused when learning of Kucinich’s vote, “I have a hard time understanding how anyone could vote against honoring the Boy Scouts of America. However, it makes sense when you understand that Congressman Kucinich voted against a resolution honoring the first responders and victims of The September 11th Terrorist Attacks as well as voting against implementing a nationwide Amber Alert system.”

Trakas continued, “Sadly, Congressman Kucinich has been spending too much time with his rich Hollywood friends to realize that those of us in Greater Cleveland admire the Boy Scouts and appreciate the values that scouting instills. They may not be weird Hollywood values, but they are Cleveland values!” commented Trakas, whose big brother was a Cub Scout.

Trakas is sending a letter to Scout Leaders throughout Greater Cleveland asking them to seek an explanation for this vote. “What part of The Scout’s Law of ‘A Scout is trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly, courteous, kind, obedient, cheerful, thrifty, brave, clean, and reverent’ does Congressman Kucinich disagree with? Trakas noted that he frequently attended Eagle Scout recognition ceremonies as a Member of The Ohio House of Representatives.

“This is yet another example of Congressman Kucinich voting Hollywood values over Cleveland values,” Trakas concluded.

  1. I hardly think Trakas having an older brother who was a Cub Scout makes him an expert on the Boy Scouts.

If anything- it makes him and his brother look like slackers.

His brother never even made it to Webelos and Trakas never even was a member.

Note: I made it all the way to Eagle.

  2. Grasping at straws would be the best way to describe the Trakas campaign. Getting outraised 18 to 1 will do that to you.

  3. Joseph now really! With all the Kookcinich bashing from you liberal bloggers you are really going to take issue with this?

You guys are grasping for straws with Obama - now DK. But since you have your official BSA Eagle Scout Underoos in a bunch I will address your silly remarks...

You spittled that because Jim was never a cub scout and his brother never made Webelo that they are slackers. Then you imply because of this Jim is no authority on Cub Scouts.

Pretty thin defense of Kucinich's back handed attack on the Cub Scouts.

But let's take your silly little swooning over DK and turn it towards him...

Since DK was never a biologist, chemist, or engineer - we should dismiss his Cheech & Chong like idea of converting our country to hemp power?

Since DK never served in the military - it hardly makes him an expert on Iraq - right?

Is that why he met with terrorist leaders instead of visiting U.S. soldiers when he visited the Middle East?

Since DK was never a doctor this means his mouth should be bandaged when he talks about health care - right?

But since DK is so anti-American it is OK for him to attack one the most respected instituitons for young men growing up.

Joseph, being an Eagle Scout you should be ashamed. Ashamed that the person you defend (DK) exhibits not one of the qualities taught in the Scouts Law.

    Anon--

It is a big hill for Jim. Unfortunately for him he does not have deep pocket Hollywood liberals.

  4. Kucinich voted against the Boy Scouts (only 1 of 8 in the entire US House of Representatives) because they do not allow gays as troop leaders. As a former Boy Scout, parent of a Boy Scout and a troop leader I am appalled at Kucinich's vote.
Young boys, pre and pubescent boys should not have contact with homosexually oriented individuals. Mothers of every Cub Scout, every den leader should be horrified by Kucinich's vote. Does his vote represent the values of the citizens of the west side and it's suburbs? Does this match with the blue collar work ethic of greater Cleveland? What do the union guys think about two boys holding hands and kissing while walking down the street?
Jim Trakas has the nerve to state the obviuous. He shares the values of greater Clerveland more than Kucinich ever will. Quit making your community the laughing stock of the country and put in a hard worker with common sense. Vote for Jim Trakas.

  5. To the anonymous poster-

Say they integrated girl scouts and boy scouts, and boy scouts had female troop leaders.

Is that to say they will be holding hands and kissing?

Just because a gay male is present around another male doesn't mean they're going to be hooking up.

And frankly, if they're doing that while walking down the street, that's their own business.

    Anyways, good for Kucinich.
