Same Story - Different "Page"

Lawmaker censured in page scandal

The south Dakota Senate on Wednesday refused to expel a lawmaker accused of fondling an 18 year old legislative page in a motel bed, but voted to censure him instead. Democratic sen. Dan Sutton had admitted sharing a bed with the page last winter but denied groping him.

The censure amounts to a public reprimand that has no effect on Sutton’s legislative powers. The motion to expel Sutton failed, 14-20, and the censure vote was 32-2. - Associated Press

I found this above clip in a little side column on page A-8 in the Plain Dealer. As you can see it is a democrat Senator, so I guess that's not news.

Maybe to the Plain Dealer it is acceptable to be a pervert if you are not republican.

Here is some from Minnesota Public Radio's web site -

South Dakota Senator testifies in his own defense
by Cara Hetland, MPR January 25, 2007

Sioux Falls, S.D. — Testimony in the second day of the South Dakota Senate fact-finding hearing contained new allegations, explanations and a few surprises.

There were unsubstantiated claims that Sen. Dan Sutton (D-Flandreau) engaged in sexually inappropriate behavior with a second young man seven years ago while on a band trip to Washington D.C. The man making the claim is Brandon Carr. He has been subpoenaed but has not yet testified.

"I did not do what Austin is claiming. I did nothing ... I have too much to risk with my career." - South Dakota Sen. Dan Sutton.

The surprise came when the lawyer for the Senate called Sen. Sutton to the stand. Sutton was calm and direct with his answers. But when his own lawyer started asking questions Sutton became more animated.

Sutton claims 19-year-old Austin Wiese made up the story that he groped Wiese in a hotel room.

Sutton says Austin Wiese was like a son to him and he didn't think it was inappropriate the two shared a bed. Sutton offered Wiese a place to stay while the teenager served as a legislative page. More...

KSFY an ABC affiliate in South Dakota reported...

A special Senate committee has recommended that state Senator Dan Sutton of Flandreau be censured for allegedly fondling a legislative page last February.

The committee voted 6-3 for censure.

Senator Kenneth McNenny of Sturgis is one of the three who opposed censure. He says Sutton should be expelled simply for sharing the same bed with the student. The recommendation will be taken up next week by the full South Dakota Senate.

KNBN-TV /MSNBC reports...

Austin Wiese was the first to take the witness stand, sitting just feet from the man he once considered a close family friend, but now sees as the senator who molested him during the 2006.

Austin Wiese, Former Legislative Page

"At that point he laid his hand on my stomach for 30 seconds and I was just shaking and he proceeded to move his hand down."

James McMahon, Senate Attorney

"Where did he move his hand?"

Austin Wiese, Former Legislative Page

"He placed his hand on my penis."

After enduring two nights of being touched repeatedly by Sutton, Wiese said he jumped out of bed... More...

Senator Sutton says he slept in the same bed as the page, but did not grope him?

My question would be - Why the HELL would another man be sleeping in the same bed with an other man, let alone an 18 or 19 year old page?

Like a son? How many guys out there sleep with their 19 year old sons?

If my memory serves me correctly, wasn't Foley on the front page of almost every paper and on every national news broadcast?

Kucinich is right - we need to look at fairness in reporting! Only problem is he thinks it is slanted against democrats - Yeah Right!
