In all, state Auditor Mary Taylor questioned $36 million in spending at six state agencies last year, most at the departments of Education and of Job and Family Services.

In the case of Job and Family Services, state auditors identified $15.2 million in questioned costs, including $13 million improperly paid to Medicaid providers due to glitches in the state's electronic payment system through Medicaid and the State Children's Insurance Program.
