Illegal Immigration Smuggling Ring broken up in Mentor

When confronted about illegal immigrants taking jobs from U.S. citizens, the left counters with - they only take jobs "we" don't want.

Anybody who ever worked in a restaurant - please raise your hand.

From the PD --
Owners and managers of a popular Mexican restaurant in Mentor smuggled workers north from Mexico, charged them high fees for the crossing and demanded they work long hours to pay off the debt, according to federal authorities.

Immigration agents and federal prosecutors say they broke up a smuggling ring that exploited illegal immigrants when they descended on Jalapeno Loco and six other Mexican restaurants in five states Wednesday morning.

Agents arrested two managers of Jalapeno Loco, which commands a prominent corner of East Points shopping plaza on Mentor Avenue and bills itself an "Authentic Mexican Restaurant." They also took into custody eight restaurant workers - six men and two women - believed to be in the country illegally. More...

Police Taser Professional Drunk for Biting Himself

I had to read this twice..... then once more, and then once again!

From My Fox Cleveland --
An Eastlake resident has 12 DUI convictions. On 49-year-old Wayne Wykof's 13th DUI arrest, he doesn’t cooperate with police, who taser him when he allegedly refuses to stop biting himself. Wykof also allegedly spit in an officer's face when being placed in a cell and could face a felony charge of harassment with a bodily substance. Click here to watch video at MyFOXCleveland.com.
I've heard of refusing the breathalyzer.... but biting yourself!?!

Rape Suspect Shot by Aurora Police Chief Dies

This is an update of an earlier post about the shooting of a rape suspect by the city of Aurora Chief of Police.

From the PD --

The rape suspect who got into a gun battle with Aurora police Chief Seth Riewaldt died at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at MetroHealth Medical Center with a bullet lodged in his brain.

The Cuyahoga County Coroner's office will perform an autopsy today.

Portage County court records show that Jian Wei Chen, 51, was accused of rape on Nov. 28.

He was accused of domestic violence in December, 2006. The charge was dismissed in March. His wife filed for divorce in February and received a restraining order that barred him from being near her. The divorce was not yet finalized; his wife requested a postponement a month ago.

The moral of this story is.... Don't be a degenerate pervert and rape women and you sure as hell don't shoot at the police!

More Gay Bathroom Love

Ever been caught on camera in a public restroom with your pants down? If your gay and visited the bathroom in the Metroparks Mill Stream Run Reservation you might have.

After receiving complaints from park visitors of being harassed by men seeking homosexual trysts, park rangers set up surveillance cameras. Like shooting fish in a barrel, through the use of these camera's, park officials charged 27 men trying to engage in homosexual bathroom love.

This has the anti-American, Christian hating korrectniks at the ACLU deliriously frothing about the violation of these perverts rights. Actually, calling it entrapment, they want signs posted to alert the ball seeking bathroom bandits....

From the PD --

But recording people in the bathroom could be entrapment, the American Civil Liberties Union said. People expect privacy when they enter a bathroom, said Carrie Davis, a staff attorney. "It's a gross invasion of privacy," she said. "It is disturbing."

If the bathroom is a prime area for criminal acts, the Metroparks should post signs informing the public they're under surveillance, Davis said. The park is not taking steps to prevent the problems by using hidden cameras, she said. More....

What is it with public restrooms and gay men? It's almost like when they come out of the closet an imaginary, leather chapped wearing gay god descends from some unknown homo utopia and gives them a book on where to meet other gay guys!

Maybe the Metroparks should invest in Anti-Gay Robotic Toilets!

Aurora Chief of Police in Shoot-Out

The Pee Dee "Breaking News" reported about a police shooting of a rape suspect today in Solon. The comments by some of the backward ass thinking Kleveland Korrectnik's are stupefying!

First the details...

Chief Seth Riewaldt of the Aurora Police Dept and a 25 year veteran was on a stake out this morning in Solon. The chief was watching a home in Solon where a rape suspect, Jian Wei Chen, lived. The paper did not report if Chen was in the country legally or a U.S. citizen.

While the chief was watching the home, the suspect exited the home and was about to leave the area. When asked by the chief to stop, the suspect opened fire. Chief Riewaldt, who was not injured, returned fire hitting Chen.

First - the Chief should be commended for his work. My regrets that he was FORCED into using his weapon. Most police would rather serve their whole career without unholstering, let alone have to use their weapons.

After I read the story I scrolled down through the remarks, what did I see? The last thing I would have ever thought! Some mindless korrectnik's were questioning the chief's heroic actions.....
  • Its Post Time: how can you commend a chief when you dont know the facts yet? i do agree that the rapist should be off the streets, but what is the Aurora Chief of police doing personally watching a house in Solon ?/ seems a little fishy to me, lets hear all the facts than we can decide to commend him, i think that he could have very well put himself in harms way for no reason and that is not very commendable at all.

  • D. Webb: Maybe someone has more info on the story, but what was an Aurora cop doing in Solon? I would think this would create quite a stir as it seems he is out of jurisdiction. Can any insiders or people with more info than the PD published shed some light on this?

  • Its Post Time: i totally agree with you david, as i was typing i see that you posted, anyways, there is for sure alot more behind this story, i can not think of any good reason why the Chief of another city's police dept. would be on a stakeout in a different city
D. Webb - should be aware before taking the side of a rape suspect - I believe when a person is sworn in as a police officer, they are sworn to uphold the laws for the State of Ohio, wherever that may be, on or off duty. Simply put - they are on duty 24hrs. Which is why they are required to be in possession of their weapon at all times, where allowed by law. I am pretty sure that when serving a warrant or witnessing the commission of a felony, they are allowed by law, to arrest these suspects, regardless of jurisdiction.

Now as for what the Aurora chief - for the ones that don't know - the chief is the one who protects us - was doing in Solon on a stake out. It is customary when there will be the need for a stake out in another community, departments will notify the city in which they will be conducting the stake out. I would bet that the call for back up went to the Solon PD, as this "shoot out" was now happening in their city.

This is pretty much the same as serving warrants. The arresting department notifies the department of the jurisdiction they will be entering to apprehend the wanted person. At times they are accompanied by these host departments for back up as a courtesy.

Are you people of the belief the cost of overtime should be borne by the residents of Solon for someone that is a suspect in a rape case in Aurora?

I could hear the suburban mayor's screaming now about spending their money and using their resources on staking out suspects from, let's say- Cleveland are living or hiding in their cozy little communities.

I am sure we will see some people question the shooting itself - After being shot at by the bad man, did the chief have to shoot back? Couldn't he have thrown a rock or something?

And we can only expect some korrectnik will bring up Chen's nationality with a remark along these lines....

Maybe Chen did not understand the chief when he was told to stop.

It is terrible that police departments do not give their officers cute little books with phrases from every dialect of Chinese and every foreign language. Maybe as the chief dodged bullet's he could have kindly restated his question - no?

How's this for a novel thought - let's be grateful the chief and all the officers will be going home tonight, so they can still protect the ungrateful second guessing masses again!

Chief Riewaldt - Good Job & Thank You !!! foriegn

Rocky River Ward 1 Councilman Spins Web of Deceit

During this time of the year we can count on several things, the World Series, Clam Bakes, Halloween, the Browns, leaves changing colors and candidates campaigning for election.

As they are selling themselves, we can only expect the campaigning candidates will have a certain amount of "spin" in the portrayal of their accomplishments and goals on how to better serve you.

But what happens when this spin crosses the line to deceit? It appears this is the case in the Council race for Ward 1 in Rocky River where Thomas Hunt is trying to keep this gift from his old friend.

Thomas Hunt who was given the seat when Rob Frost stepped down, has to now earn the seat. As he is out on the campaign trail trying to fool voters into electing him, it appears he maybe spinning a web of deceit.

Already accused of stealing the yard signs of his opponent, Hunt also seems to be less than truthful in his campaign literature....

Tom began private practice in 1996 and has been an associate to the law director for the City of Highland Heights, Ohio.

When contacting the City of Highland Hts., I was informed they did not know a Thomas Hunt, nor did any Thomas Hunt work for their Law Department. Upon further questioning I was directed to Finance Director, Mr. Tony Ianiro. Mr. Ianiro confirmed that Hunt's law partner is the Law Director of their city, but the City of Highland Hts has no relationship whatsoever with Thomas Hunt.

In fact Mr. Ianiro stated that "the City of Highland Hts does not even recognize the position of Associate Law Director, has never retained the services of Hunt - individually or through his partners firm." In short, no payment was ever made to Hunt for any legal work on behalf of the City of Highland Hts.

Could this be an innocent typo on Hunt's part? I think not - I have verified with several RPCC Scanning Committee members that Hunt portrayed himself to be Associate Law Director of Highland Hts in his dog & pony endorsement interview. In fact, during a phone conversation, Mr. Hunt, thinking he was speaking with a potential client, personally informed me that he did not work for Highland Hts, but his partner was their Law Director.

But wait, there is more!

It appears that Hunt may also be getting help in the way of questionable votes from family members.

A simple search through 411.com and local directory assistance will verify Mr. Hunt has a brother Neal, who resides in Ward 3 of Rocky River. Problem being, Neal is and has been voting from his old address in Ward 1 for quite some time. An oversight - maybe, but it appears even more suspect when you continue voting from an address outside the ward in which you live - especially when your brother is running for council in that ward.

Voter lists are a basic tool for all candidates. How is that Hunt does not know his brother is registered in Ward 1, but living in Ward 3? Will the residents again be told this is just ANOTHER misunderstanding by candidate Hunt?

  • Stealing signs - misunderstanding

  • Not knowing where you work - misunderstanding

  • Brother lives & votes in different wards - misunderstanding

Whether deceit, incompetence, or just ANOTHER unfortunate misunderstanding (Yeah Right!) - is this someone that should be elected to office? You must ask yourself - if a play on words will be used to deceive you during the campaign, could you not only expect this behavior if elected?

If Hunt does not know who he represents as an attorney, how the hell will he know who he represents if elected to council? Can you be sure - it will be you?

Update: Walton Hills Council President to run for Mayor

***Update***

I am updating this post as there has been many comments on this older post. The comments have came after my original post on 7/13/07 was recently handed out to residents of Walton Hills.

Please note that there was also an "Anti-King Blog" started by an anonymous poster who works on the Hurst Campaign.

I wonder.... if Hurst gets elected is this the behavior residents can expect if they disagree with him? Are these the type of people the residents can expect Hurst will surround himself with if elected? Is this a prelude of how the residents will be treated by Hurst and his Nightmare Team?

King

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

Routinely setting up the night before at the polls for the best sign positions, you can bet election day in Walton Hills will be a zoo this year.....

Council President, Kevin Hurst, will give up the safety of his seat and run for Mayor.

"After spending 42 months on Council, it has been made clear to me that Council can only do so much," he said July 9. "And I want to be pro-active, not reactive.

"I followed certain, specific criteria in making this decision to run and I believe my decision is in the best interests of the residents of Walton Hills," Hurst said. "I prayed alone and then I prayed with my family and then I talked with many people."

Hurst said his ability to communicate with people, his ability to make smart decisions and his willingness to work long hours makes him qualified to lead Walton Hills.

Current Mayor Marlene Anielski has pulled petitions and has stated she is still deciding if she will run again.

Walton Hills is currently in a fight with Bedford Schools to leave the school district. The biased state mediator has ruled Walton Hills is not allowed to leave the district. The case is currently under appeal.

Hurst having been on both side of this issue, notes he looks to prayer for guidance. While commendable, it does not appear to be sending him a clear message.

Prior to serving on council, Hurst was against Walton Hills pulling out of the failing Bedford School District. After being elected, he switched to being for the pullout, now flipping back, he is against it.

The biggest mistake Walton hills residents could do now would be to "Quit" their fight to pull out. If a decision will be made in their favor, it will be at the appeals court level.

I had the chance to listen to Councilman Hurst on a radio show one evening. Hurst was unwilling to answer any questions and continually referred back to his faith as his guiding light.

One who already sees the light is current Mayor Marlene Anielski. While Mayor Anielski may not bring chocolate chip cookies on a platter to meetings to keep everyone happy, she sure does bring a lot to the table.

Anielski is the ONE elected official in this area who has had the courage to stand up and speak truthfully about our schools. After trying to work within the system to effect positive change in our schools and being rebuffed, Anielski, acted on the residents cry for "help" with conviction.

While maybe sincere, Hurst appears to be easily pulled in opposite directions. The communities in this area need strong leaders with good direction.

Mayor Anielski, has the keys to the car, is buckled up with a full tank of gas and knows where she is going!

Walton Hills residents need to keep up the fight and keep Mayor Anielski in the drivers seat!

Drunk Father Loses Baby in Field

If anybody ever deserved a beating from the police, it would be this drunk idiot...
A Cleveland man told police that his 5-month-old son must have bounced out of his stroller while the two were crossing a field in the 1600 block of East 85th Street.

"He said he hit a bump and the baby must have bounced out of the stroller," Lt. Thomas Stacho said.

A woman thought she heard a cat crying at 4:30 a.m. and investigated. She found the baby and called police. The baby was taken to Rainbow Babies and Children's Hospital. "He's fine," Stacho said.

The father realized the baby was not in the house and began looking for him. He walked across the field again and met up with the woman who had found his son. She called police again, telling them she had located the baby's father.
The good news is the baby is OK and Child Services has custody of the child. The bad news is this guy is still the father!

The baby was visiting with the father, the mother is the custodial parent. One also has to question why the mother would leave her baby with a guy that obviously was not fit to be caring for a child. The prosecutors office will review this no brainer of a case and decide if the drunk idiot should be charged with child endangering.

Not only should he be charged with Child Endangering but he should lose ALL unsupervised visitation rights. For those that will want to defend his parental rights - in my opinion he forfeited the right to be a parent.

The women found the baby around 4:30am. The father states - after he returned home he realized the baby was gone, then he went to look for him.... Officers state he was highly intoxicated.

Repossessing in this area for many many years, I can attest at this time in the morning, his walk was not a leisurely stroll to quiet junior down. From past experiences, it is not uncommon for crackheads to sell their kids for a few rocks! There is NO question in my mind this drunk crackhead was out looking for some rock, weed, etc....

SO..... the father took a 5 month old baby out in the wee hours of the morning and was so drunk he did not know the baby fell out.

If I were a Police Officer, the interview would go something like this....

First, why were you drunk when you were watching your son? As he answered I would slap him and tell him, "SHUT UP, before you get another one!"

Next question - Why did you have a 5 month old out at 4:00am? Again, as he answered I would slap him and tell him, "SHUT UP, before you get another one!"

With the Yellow Pages sitting on the table, I would ask the next question...... How in the hell did you not know you lost your son until you got home? Yep, as the idiot answered this question I would just wind up and blast him in the side of the head with the Yellow Pages (leaves no marks) knocking him across the room.

Brutality & Abuse? No, a good shot of reality! Any idiot that thinks they could have a good answer for any of these questions needs a slap back to reality and is not fit to be a parent!

Cleveland's Bloody 4th of July

I think I figured out why Mayor Jackson wants a Medical Mart....

Being a city with a violent crime rate over 50% higher than the national average, we will be able to supply plenty of victims so they can practice with their medical wares.

From the PD Breaking News --

Four people are dead after a night of gunfire in Cleveland. Three more are near death in local hospitals, police said. Nearly a dozen others are recovering from gunshot wounds.

Cleveland firefighter Terrance Hough Jr., 35, is in jail, accused of shooting a neighbor and two visitors dead and injuring five others in a barrage of gunfire at 4375 Sky Lane Drive a little after midnight. Hough lives at 4381 Sky Lane Drive.

The other shootings and a slashing:
  • 9:40 p.m. at 7317 Elton Ave., a woman was found slashed with a knife. Family members found Marnie Macon, 37, dead in her apartment with deep lacerations to her forehead and a shoulder. There are no suspects or motive yet, Stacho said.

  • 9:55 p.m. at 105th Street and Somerset Drive, a man was shot in the head and is near death.

  • 3 a.m. in the Warehouse District outside the Sky Bar, a man was shot in the head and may die. Three other men were shot and are recovering. Two of the men live in Twinsburg, Stacho said.

  • 3:32 a.m. at the Baby Grand bar in the 3400 block of St. Clair Avenue, a man was shot in the face and is near death.

Cleveland firefighters were scrambling as well, fighting three major fires overnight, on 78th Street and Madison Avenue, on Bailey Avenue and in the 2600 block of West 41st Street.

Cleveland NAACP Leader charged in BWC Probe

From the PD --

A task force investigating corruption at the Ohio Bureau of Workers' Compensation on Tuesday charged Cleveland NAACP President George Forbes with criminal violations of state ethics laws.

The six misdemeanor charges stem from Forbes' tenure as a member of the BWC's oversight board.

He is accused of accepting gifts from investment brokers doing or trying to do business with the BWC and not reporting them on financial disclosure statements filed with the Ohio Ethics Commission.

Forbes, 76, is scheduled to be arraigned Thursday morning in Franklin County Municipal Court. More....

His daughter, Mildred "Mimi" Forbes, worked as the human resources manager for MDL Capital Partners, a Pittsburgh firm that lost $216 million in a risky investment for the BWC.

Judge: Maple Hts. parental-responsibility law is unconstitutional

I want to thank Jill from, Writes Likes She Talks, for pointing this out to me.

The Maple Hts 'Parental Responsibility Law' that was being challenged in Garfield Municipal Court as to vague, has been ruled unconstitutional.

Posting my feelings on this case previously, I feel the way Maple Hts. had their law drafted was vague and could be considered subjective. While well intentioned, it seemed to be backwards as their were no steps for parents to take prior to being charged, thus maybe the judges reference to due process...

From the PD --

Judge Jennifer Weiler dropped the charges against a Maple Heights mother who a city prosecutor said failed to supervise her 17-year-old son when he led police on a high-speed chase last fall that ended when the car slammed into a tree.

The mother, Thelma Ephraim, 44, challenged the parental-responsibility law, which is believed to be the first of its kind in Ohio.

In her decision, Weiler wrote that the law is vague, fails to define "poor supervision" of a minor and is unevenly applied, because not every parent whose child is charged with a crime is cited.

The ordinance gives parents a chance to convince a court that they have taken reasonable steps to control their child. But Weiler ruled that the law unconstitutionally places the burden of proof on the accused and violates due process. More....

The City of Bedford, which has a similar ordinance, has a juvenile diversion program involving the parent & child, prior to any charges being filed. To date, I am unaware of any parent being charged under Bedford's version of the Parental Responsibility Law. But, we can be sure our law will now be challenged.

The article notes that Maple Hts will appeal the ruling but has charged 11 other parents through Garfield Municipal Court under this ordinance. Nine have pleaded no contest and were sentenced to parenting classes. Being one of two judges in Garfield Municipal Court, I find it hard to believe Judge Weiner has not presided over one of these cases.

This leads me to ask....

If having sentenced a defendant on a law she later ruled unconstitutional, did Weiler willfully violate their civil rights?

Do the parents previously charged & sentenced have any recourse against Weiler and/or Maple Hts?

Cleveland's "Missing Mayor" finally keeps promise!

Wll look at that! Cleveland Mayor, Frank "Who?"Jackson, will finally make good on a promise.

Too bad it is not to City of Cleveland residents......

From the PD --

Cleveland Mayor Frank Jackson has made good on his bet with San Antonio Mayor Phil Hardberger on the outcome of the NBA Finals.

Today, Jackson will send Hardberger "a taste of Cleveland" -- a case of Ohio City pasta, ribs and special sauce from Hot Sauce Williams and a case of Great Lakes Brewing Company's "Burning River" ale.

Had the Cavs won, Jackson would have got a case of tamales and a case of Alamo Golden ale from Hardberger. But Hardberger was a good sport -- he said last night in a news release that he's still going to send a case of ale.

More illegal immigrant protests in Painesville

Why do people illegally here in our country, THINK they are entitled to the rights afforded to U. S. citizens?

Once again the illegals and their relatives were marching against the illegal immigrant crack down by INS in the Lake, Geauga and Ashtabula county areas.

From the PD --

Marchers protesting recent immigration raids walked through the hot, silent streets of Painesville this afternoon waving American flags and carrying signs aserting their right to be in the United States.

About 300 people left the city's Recreation Park at 3 p.m. making for Veteran's Memorial Park about six blocks away. It was the region's largest pro-immigration rally yet, but the turnout was less than expected.

"We know a lot of people from Painesville are afraid to march because they (federal agents) are still taking people," said Veronica Dahlberg, a march organizer.
The agents should have been waiting at Veteran's Memorial Park checking documentation on every marcher/protestor.

Cuyahoga Co. Commissioners stopped from razing landmark for new building

With the history of corruption, incompetence and wasteful spending by area democrats over the years, I get nervous anytime Cuyahoga County or the City of Cleveland officials do anything more than leave work.

The county plan to raze the Ameritrust Tower for new county offices has hit a snag. Even though the commissioners have no finished plan for the new building, they are mad the city's planning commission told them to get bent on razing the Ameritrust Tower.

Only in Cuyahoga County could someone expect to tear down a landmark for new offices and not have a finished plan of the new building.

From the PD --

The battle over the fate of a landmark tower downtown reached an uneasy standoff Friday, with the city's Planning Commission refusing to approve demolition that would clear the way for a new Cuyahoga County administration complex.

City Planning Commission Chairman Tony Coyne ripped county officials for lack of cooperation and failure to seriously consider saving the 29-story Ameritrust tower at East Ninth Street and Euclid Avenue as part of the new complex.

"We don't get it in Cleveland," Coyne said. "In downtown Chicago, they would never tear this down."

County Commissioner Tim Hagan fired back, saying multiple architects found the tower unworkable for the county's needs.

"This is beyond anything I've confronted in my political life," Hagan said in an interview Friday afternoon. "An unelected group dictating to commissioners what kind of building should be built in a city where the mayor and City Council president support it. That's exactly what's wrong with the city." More....

Yeah that's it Tim! What's wrong with the city would never be the failures of local democrats to lead effectively and without corruption. Taxin' Tim is staying true to the Democrat belief; if it goes wrong, blame someone else!

This article, while informative, misses a bigger issue.....
  • How can we begin a building project without a finished plan?

  • Without a finished plan, how were the estimated costs for this new building projected?

  • What are the estimated costs to complete this project and what measures will be in place to assure financial transparency of the project?
The comments on this post at the PD site are great and telling. It seems as maybe the residents of this county are starting to open their eyes. It seems they are no longer buying the day old jelly doughnuts, with no jelly, served by the local democrats.

With the city and counties history of blunders, incompetence and corruption at Steelyard Commons, Triangle Development and Hopkins Airport, these guys should be limited to only building with Leggo's and Lincoln Logs.

Cleveland Hts Police Officer Executed

Being the son of a retired police officer, this story really puts a hard lump in my throat.

This officer was not killed, he was executed in cold blood!

From the PD --

Cleveland Heights -- Police Chief Martin Lentz said Timothy Halton Jr., 27, shot officer Jason West, who died at Huron Hospital a little after midnight this morning.

Halton had been convicted in December 2004, of assault. He was sentenced to probation and ordered to take antipsychotic medication.....

West, who was recently promoted to investigator, was shot in the head and legs.

This is what Lentz says happened at about 10 p.m. Friday: Officers were called to Altamont Avenue to quell a loud party that erupted into a fight over a woman. Three police cars responded.

West arrived first and blocked a vehicle that was trying to leave. Halton was in a black car parked nearby.West got out of his car and was immediately shot by Halton. Halton got out of his vehicle and walked toward West, firing more shots.
listen to the 911 call here

West's family, from Avon, were with him when he died. He never regained consciousness.

People, next time you see a policeman, or their family - do yourself a favor, Thank them!

Thank them for sacrificing a normal lifestyle that you enjoy and they cannot. Thank them for the routine inconveniences they go through by being the family of a police officer.

Delayed birthday parties, opening of Christmas gifts, etc.... Everything single they do is dictated by being the proud family of a police officer.

Look their children in the eye, when this child is old enough, they will realize what the spouse already knows; on a daily basis when their police officer parent leaves for work, it may be the last time they ever see them alive.

I could go on and on with these examples..... It is a sacrifice most people and families would NEVER make.

But even with all this, being the family of a police officer, is something I would NOT trade for all the riches in the world!

Cuyahoga County can't find State Welfare Money

It will be fun to see how this one turns out! I wonder if the "Mason Machine" will have another asst. prosecutor with ties to the judge work this case?

The good thing is that at least Cuyahoga County is consistent.... in screwing the residents!

From the PD --

The Cuyahoga County prosecutor is investigating how hundreds of thousands of dollars of state welfare money went missing.

The commissioners were briefed on the situation. Cuyahoga County Commissioner Tim Hagan said the county is uncertain how much money is missing, but he was told it could be $400,000 or more.

Ohio provides the monthly payments to people receiving public assistance - now known as temporary aid for needy families - but county employees sign people up for the programs.

The director of the county's Employment and Family Services Department, Joseph Gaunter, declined to comment on the investigation at the request of the prosecutor's office.

Employee Juanita Jackson Myrick was put on paid leave from the Employment and Family Services Department in late April. An entry made in the county court system listed Myrick and Denise McCory and indicated an investigation had begun. McCory is not a county employee.

Myrick, a supervisor in the department who made a little more than $48,000 last year, has worked for the county about 17 years. Neither she nor McCory could be reached for comment.

Cuy. Co. Judge Revokes Probation - Football Standout Cries On Way To Jail

Looks like former All-American running back, Raymond Williams, from Benedictine High School will be going to jail on probation violation after all.

A recent post here remarked how Cuyahoga County Judge , Shirley Strickland Saffold, continually allowed Williams to break terms of his probation without any ramifications. Yeterday that changed.....

Williams in Saffold's court yesterday, where his probation was revoked by the judge and his sentence of three years was imposed.

It seemed Raymond Williams wanted to be more like Ricky Williams, a former NFL player who was banned for smoking weed!

From the PD --
Williams went to prison for three years this afternoon, hours after testing positive for marijuana use. The positive drug screen was the 21-year-old's first since his 2004 probation for involuntary manslaughter.

Williams swore the test was rigged or wrong, swore he hadn't used any illegal drugs. "I am willing to do any and everything to prove I'm not using marijuana," Williams implored of Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Judge Shirley Strickland Saffold.

But the judge classified him a probation violator and imposed the minimum sentence for involuntary manslaughter, a sentence Saffold suspended after Williams pleaded guilty. Then Williams broke down in loud, heaving sobs in a holding cell alongside the judge's courtroom.

"It's really sad," Saffold said afterward.

No.... It's really stupid!

NEW job openings in Lake & Ashtabula Counties

In a bit of good news for out of work people in this area, there will be approximately 100 new job openings in Lake County. While it is a bit of a drive from Cuyahoga County, it is better than not working at all and collecting welfare. The only requirement is that you are an American Citizen.

These potential new job openings come courtesy of Immigration and Customs Enforcement Officials and Lake County Sheriff Dept. rounding up of illegal immigrants who take away jobs from hard working Americans.

From the PD
More than 200 protestors are at City Hall waving American flags and denouncing an immigration crackdown that began this week in Lake County.

Some migrant workers are hiding in fields and in a Catholic church, hoping Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents don't arrest them, said Veronica Isabel Dahlberg, of Hispanas Organizadas de Lake y Ashtabula.

"My understanding is that I.C.E. started out arresting people who had missed immigration court hearings, but they have also arrested people who were with those people," Leopold said.

Painesville police Sgt. Dan Waterman said his officers assisted I.C.E. agents earlier this week in arresting 22 people "who had been deported and returned or who had been ordered deported but hadn't left." More....

I wonder why Leopold is upset that people harboring illegal aliens are also being arrested? Is this also not a crime?

The PD continues in another article about how this crackdown is ruffling the burritos of these illegals....

More than 400 people crowded into the basement of St. Mary's Catholic Church on the heels of a protest today against a weeklong sweep by immigration officials.

"We are scared," Guadelope Gonzalez said as Mass was conducted upstairs. "They can take me and send me back to Mexico. We are good people. We just come here to work."

The crowd is on edge, fearful that immigration agents are still in Lake County, looking to arrest undocumented Hispanic people.

Not all of the people in the church are undocumented. Some have family members who are undocumented. They are trying to stay together.

They brought peanut butter sandwiches, oranges and Pepsi to the church, where they will stay until they are sure the Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents are gone.

Hispanic activists at the protest this afternoon said up to 100 people were taken into custody and whisked out of the county.

Gonzalez, 36, has a wife, a son and a daughter. His son, a toddler, was born in Chicago. He could stay in the United States, but I.C.E. could deport Gonzalez and his wife and daughter. Gonzalez said he has been in the United States for 13 years.

Last year, an estimated 8,000 to 10,000 Mexican immigrants lived in Lake and Ashtabula counties. Most work at the many nurseries in the area.

Being Catholic, I want to say the Church should be ashamed of itself for harboring these illegal aliens. The Church should be a place of worship, not a flop house for illegals fleeing the law!

Browsing the reader comments on the Plain Dealer posts for these articles, shows many area residents feel the round up of these illegals was long over due.

Parental Responsibility Law Challenged

I applaud Maple Hts for forcing people to become responsible parents. Some people are already crying the law in which they can charge parents for their children's behavior may be to aggressive and unfair.

Under the Maple Hts law, parents can be charged with a misdemeanor, even if their child is not charged with a crime. The law appears to be directly aimed at parents who refuse to be parents.
Parents showing an active role in disciplining and trying to control their children, will not necessarily be charged. This determination will be made by police and prosecutors.

The law is being challenged in Garfield Municipal Court as to vague.

The City of Bedford has a law and a program similar to Maple Hts. I feel the way Bedford handles and addresses these situations should be a model program, which I will explain below.

Many communities will be watching this one closely.

The PD reports --
Thelma Ephraim was charged because her son, 17, was charged in juvenile court with carrying a concealed weapon, resisting arrest and failure to comply with a police order.

Ephraim's attorneys, Ronald Balbier and Public Defender Jeffrey Lazarus told Garfield Heights Municipal Court Judge Jennifer P. Weiler that the law tries to govern how people parent their kids and to hold them responsible if there kids do anything wrong.

Balbier said as it reads now, parents can be charged with crimes if their children spit on the sidewalk, hurl a rock or get into a fight at school -- even if the child is not charged with any crime.

"It's assuming that anything a kid does wrong is because they weren't raised right," Balbier said. "I've got kids," he said. "They're good, but they could screw up."

The attorneys argued that the law is so vague and broad that a reasonable person wouldn't know how to prevent being charged with a crime that could land them in jail. More....

Unfortunately like typical bleeding heart defense attorneys, the public defender Balbier over exaggerates, but brings up some valid points. But again, I feel it goes to intent of the law and application of the process.

The most important thing here is that kids will be kids.... Some will screw up and get in trouble regardless of who or how 'good' their parents are. It is the gravity & frequency of the trouble, and attitude and involvement of the parent, that needs to be considered.

My father was a policeman for 25 yrs and my mother was a 5' tall God fearing Catholic Italian/Sicilian women who was the most caring Mother in the world. But go ahead and screw up, my Mother had the unique ability to turn anything into a paddle.

I was raised that children have no rights, only the ones 'given' to them by their parents. Children have no expectation to privacy... only the privacy 'given' to them. If the child gives the parent a reason to suspect something is wrong, going through their room, drawers and such, is part of being a responsible parent.

But we must make sure that these laws do not keep kids from being kids. The lessons of screwing up and getting in trouble at a young age builds character, integrity, responsibility, accountability, etc.... "if" there is parental discipline.

In the case such as the one above, it appears the parent does not feel her son was wrong by carrying a gun, resisting arrest and failure to comply. In this case, her teenager having a gun justifies her being charged. For her child to be carrying a gun, this parent has failed miserably.

Does this sound like a potential path to disaster? Think recent shooting on 135th & Kinsman where a 15 year old punk was shot & killed robbing someone at gunpoint.

Now to use the City of Bedford as an example.....

Bedford has had problems with kids walking in the streets and challenging cars, threatening the elderly, etc.... While I am sure is still happens to some extent, it has decreased dramatically and you rarely hear about it.

The City of Bedford and Bedford Municipal Court, with cooperation from the Bedford Police Dept. have made remarkable strides in combating this problem.

Depending on the infraction, children are sent to a Juvenile Diversion Program and will be dealt with on a local level. The kids are made to clean up along roads, parks, etc....

If this does not work and the kids continue causing trouble, the next time they are referred to the Cuyahoga County Juvenile Court system.

I believe if a child is picked up more than twice, the parents can then be charged. With incremental steps such as this, it helps weed out the real trouble makers and kids just doing stupid kid stuff,

The successful results are apparent when driving around Bedford. To date, I am unaware of any complaints

Bedford School Board Member to get grilled on radio by King

On the Radio 1300 AM EVERY Wednesday 8-9 PM"Community Voices" w/Oakwood Village CouncilmenJoe Fouche and Robert TownsendTune in weekly for topics that concern YOU!

Tim Tench, Bedford School Board Member and Bedford Sun Banner Reporter Robert Nozar will be featured on this week's radio show - April 25th
If you missed last week's show, you missed Walton Hills Council President Kevin Hirsch and Walton Hills Councilmen Denny Linville.

I will be calling into the show again.

Depending on how much freedom and time they give me, I will ask an on topic question but…. I will ask Tim Tench - In the spirit of financial transparency, when the communities within Bedford School District can expect a performance audit to be done. Also when can we expect the school board meetings to be broadcast on our school cable channel?

The school board has REFUSED to answer these two questions for at least the last 4 years. Another note, Tim Tench is on the Central Committee for the Cuyahoga County Democrats. Board member Andy Mizsak is also on the dems Central Committee.

My question for Robert Nozar of the Sun Banner will be - Why does the newspaper only report school board policy line and not an accurate reflection of what happens at the school board meetings?

Examples being... Parents asking about students without text books, teachers getting new computers / students working with outdated pc's, over spending accounts by a million dollars, 11 findings against the district by former Auditor Montgomery, etc....

Last week my call took up pretty much the second half of their show. Who knows if they will allow me to do that again?

If you have time please listen to the show. I am quite confident the show will be interesting. If they let me on the air again, I guarantee it!
