Aurora Chief of Police in Shoot-Out

The Pee Dee "Breaking News" reported about a police shooting of a rape suspect today in Solon. The comments by some of the backward ass thinking Kleveland Korrectnik's are stupefying!

First the details...

Chief Seth Riewaldt of the Aurora Police Dept and a 25 year veteran was on a stake out this morning in Solon. The chief was watching a home in Solon where a rape suspect, Jian Wei Chen, lived. The paper did not report if Chen was in the country legally or a U.S. citizen.

While the chief was watching the home, the suspect exited the home and was about to leave the area. When asked by the chief to stop, the suspect opened fire. Chief Riewaldt, who was not injured, returned fire hitting Chen.

First - the Chief should be commended for his work. My regrets that he was FORCED into using his weapon. Most police would rather serve their whole career without unholstering, let alone have to use their weapons.

After I read the story I scrolled down through the remarks, what did I see? The last thing I would have ever thought! Some mindless korrectnik's were questioning the chief's heroic actions.....
  • Its Post Time: how can you commend a chief when you dont know the facts yet? i do agree that the rapist should be off the streets, but what is the Aurora Chief of police doing personally watching a house in Solon ?/ seems a little fishy to me, lets hear all the facts than we can decide to commend him, i think that he could have very well put himself in harms way for no reason and that is not very commendable at all.

  • D. Webb: Maybe someone has more info on the story, but what was an Aurora cop doing in Solon? I would think this would create quite a stir as it seems he is out of jurisdiction. Can any insiders or people with more info than the PD published shed some light on this?

  • Its Post Time: i totally agree with you david, as i was typing i see that you posted, anyways, there is for sure alot more behind this story, i can not think of any good reason why the Chief of another city's police dept. would be on a stakeout in a different city
D. Webb - should be aware before taking the side of a rape suspect - I believe when a person is sworn in as a police officer, they are sworn to uphold the laws for the State of Ohio, wherever that may be, on or off duty. Simply put - they are on duty 24hrs. Which is why they are required to be in possession of their weapon at all times, where allowed by law. I am pretty sure that when serving a warrant or witnessing the commission of a felony, they are allowed by law, to arrest these suspects, regardless of jurisdiction.

Now as for what the Aurora chief - for the ones that don't know - the chief is the one who protects us - was doing in Solon on a stake out. It is customary when there will be the need for a stake out in another community, departments will notify the city in which they will be conducting the stake out. I would bet that the call for back up went to the Solon PD, as this "shoot out" was now happening in their city.

This is pretty much the same as serving warrants. The arresting department notifies the department of the jurisdiction they will be entering to apprehend the wanted person. At times they are accompanied by these host departments for back up as a courtesy.

Are you people of the belief the cost of overtime should be borne by the residents of Solon for someone that is a suspect in a rape case in Aurora?

I could hear the suburban mayor's screaming now about spending their money and using their resources on staking out suspects from, let's say- Cleveland are living or hiding in their cozy little communities.

I am sure we will see some people question the shooting itself - After being shot at by the bad man, did the chief have to shoot back? Couldn't he have thrown a rock or something?

And we can only expect some korrectnik will bring up Chen's nationality with a remark along these lines....

Maybe Chen did not understand the chief when he was told to stop.

It is terrible that police departments do not give their officers cute little books with phrases from every dialect of Chinese and every foreign language. Maybe as the chief dodged bullet's he could have kindly restated his question - no?

How's this for a novel thought - let's be grateful the chief and all the officers will be going home tonight, so they can still protect the ungrateful second guessing masses again!

Chief Riewaldt - Good Job & Thank You !!! foriegn

  1. First-of-all, I am not here to judge anyone, but giving the fact about Jianwei Chen as a brother in church. People who know him may have different opinion.

Mr. Jianwei Chen was a brother in a Solon local church. He baptized in February 2007. He loved children and cared about others. He was so happy and enjoyed the retreat during October 12th weekend where he severed the cooking and lodging for others. In his last bible study meeting in late November, where he shared the book of Mark Chapter 5 and talked about how he had faith in God, our Lord Jesus Christ. He was a quite and shy brother in the church. He was not type of violent person, just not that character. I was shocked when saw the news, however there shouldn’t be any reason for him to rap anyone but he may break the law on his wife’s restraining order. He was not well educated and not knowing the US law well. His English speaking also not even trained.

Hope this information help to understand the person.
