Lieberman The Only Smart Democrat?

Lieberman may back Republican in 2008

WASHINGTON - AP Mon Jan 29, 12:00 AM ET

Connecticut Sen. Joe Lieberman' the Democratic vice-presidential nominee in 2000 who won re-election as an independent last year, says he is open to supporting any party's White House nominee in 2008.

"I'm going to do what most independents and a lot of Democrats and Republicans in America do, which is to take a look at all the candidates and then in the end, regardless of party, decide who I think will be best for the future of our country," Lieberman said Sunday.

"So I'm open to supporting a Democrat, Republican or even an Independent, if there's a strong one. More....

From the current field of candidates I think it would be safe to say, Leiberman will be endorsing a republican.

Other than Obama the current democrat candidates appear to be campaigning with the same "republicans are bad" & "get out of Iraq" message, as in the last election. A campaign tactic which may backfire on them by the presidential election.

Leiberman is the one democrat who I feel uses common sense, has a true understanding of the "Big Picture" in the middle east and does not act like your "typical" democrat.

His refusal to support the non-binding resolution against the "troop surge", and willingness to filibuster this resolution, shows he is more republican than some of the republican disappointments we have in Washington, George Voinovich being one of them.

  1. King,

In regards to your comment on my site, I wouldn't mind Newt Gingrich on the ticket, but I don't think he can win a general election. Amongst other things, he's too polarizing of a figure to win.

If Rudy wins the primary, I wouldn't mind seeing Newt as his running mate.

  2. When Newt wins, rudy would make a great VP! LOL

Either way, I think the two make an interesting ticket. i don't think Newt is as polarizing as he used to be. Although he does have some baggage. Rudy has some too.

This ticket may just have the conservative to moderate appeal we need.
