La. Rep. Jefferson accused of MORE bribery charges

Already under a 16 count indictment for charges of soliciting bribes, wire fraud, money-laundering and facing a possible 235 years in jail, Rep. William Jefferson's (D-La.) troubles just got worse.

USA Today is reporting that prosecutors are accusing Jefferson of 2 more incidents of soliciting bribery....

From USA Today --

The government alleges that in 2002 Jefferson, a Democrat, asked a lobbyist for a U.S. oil services company for payments of $10,000 a month for a family member. In exchange, Jefferson said he would help the company promote business in Africa. The lobbyist turned down the request, according to the document.

Jefferson later made a deal to urge NASA to do business with a U.S. rocket launch services and technology company, according to the filing. The company is accused of agreeing to pay Jefferson's family business and a relative in exchange for his help. More....

Jefferson is the first sitting congressman to face charges under the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, which prohibits corporate bribery overseas.

As if finding $90,000 cash in Jefferson's refrigerator was not enough, prosecutors will use they latest examples of Jefferson's corruption to bolster their case.
