Last year Representatives from the Chabad Jewish Center requested a Menorah be displayed along with a Christmas Tree on the city owned, Oak Street Plaza. Not wanting to open the City to requests for displays from other groups, the city rejected this request. In attempts to soothe nerves a local tavern, CooperSmith’s Pub & Brewing, erected a Menorah - but this was not good enough!
Bowing to korrectnik's and the Menorah controversy still raging, city leaders enlisted the help from some local politically correct ass hats and formed a Holiday Display Task Force. This Merry Band of Holiday Misfits is proposing a completely secular holiday. The proposal will allow no religious displays outside city buildings - meaning NO Christmas Tree and NO Menorah.
All holiday lighting shall consist of white lights only! All "holiday" items displayed outside & inside city buildings must be considered secular decorations; icicles, snowmen, snowflakes, etc...
While encouraging only secular displays, a Christmas Tree can be set up inside a city building - but only if accompanied with a display from another religion or group.
The Ruling Grinch of this Merry Band of Holiday Misfits,
Mayor Hutchinson, feels this is a great idea....."I am really delighted to see us taking this step," Mayor Doug Hutchinson said when the task force was being assembled.
"I think Fort Collins is a great city, and I think great cities are inclusionary."
Here is a link for all the Fort Collins Council email addresses and here is a link for Mayor Grinch. I encourage everyone to email them and share what Christmas means before they make their decision on November 20th.
I thought this country was founded on freedom. The freedom to practice and express ourselves. The freedom of speach. The freedom from religious persecution. We are being persecuted.
ReplyDeleteMayor Hutchinson, thanks for making fort collins the laughing stock of America.
