COLUMBUS, Ohio — Former Ohio Treasurer Jennette Bradley paid her husband's business $51,300 in campaign consulting fees months after she lost her bid for re-election, state records show.
It was on Nov. 10 that the Bradley for Ohio campaign paid its fee to Michael Taylor Communications LLC, a public relations firm, according to campaign finance reports filed this week. More than six months after Bradley failed to secure the 2006 Republican nomination for treasurer in the May 2 primary.
Jeff Ortega, a spokesman for the Ohio Secretary of State's office, said there are no restrictions under Ohio election law against hiring family members for reasonable services.
Bradley's husband Taylor was the single largest recipient of the campaign's cash during the year. He was paid a total of $56,943.78 by the campaign.
In addition to the consulting fee to his communications business, Taylor was reimbursed another $5,600 for cell phone and mileage charges, hotel costs and air fare.
Six of the eight payments made to Taylor in 2006 came after Bradley's defeat, including $466.99 for hotel expenses dated May 8 and $930.72 for air fare dated June 20.
Sometimes you just got to wonder what people are thinking.
I am very curious to see what the hotel and air fare six months after the election was for.
